Hey guys I figured I'd post up this idea I came up with not to long ago and was finally able to finish up this weekend. I do a lot of camping and always thought to myself man it would be nice if the tailgate was one big cutting board so I could use it to prepare camp food. So I went on plasticcuttingboards.com and ordered a 54x20 sheet of 1/2" tan board and spent a week messing with it on the mill. Without too much work I was able to punch this out and it matches the truck pretty good!IMG_4105.jpgIMG_4106.jpg

Like the idea but won't that get super dirty and grimy just from every day driving?

You do know that the metal cover is part of the structural support/ strength of your tailgate right? o_O Otherwise I think it is a neat idea.

Looks like he just replaced the OEM plastic cover with a cutting board material fabbed up to fit in its place.

Yeah the plastic cover is pretty thin, maybe 1/8" thick. I just use the waterport with a little soap and give it a good scrub when I'm done and it stays clean

Reviving this thread. How did this workout? Did the plastic degrade? Did it stay dirty? Any issues so far?

Sure, except I don't roll my lawnmower over my cutting boards.

    :cookiemonster:

Since we're reviving the thread with that subject:

I can see some reasons why people would want a smooth working surface - unprotected food prep shouldn't be one of them. I can get a set of four cutting mats for 10 bucks - I keep a set for the house and another set that's for camping. A sanitary kitchen is a safe kitchen - the use of cutting mats reduces risk of food contamination, and more importantly it makes cleanup easier which keeps the critters away. Use those on top of your tailgate.

    Sorta like Kale.

I'd be all over this just to have a smooth surface to crawl over as opposed to the torture device there now.

Yeah, knee saver is actually a legit reason. I try to avoid crawling across that gate too. If I have to unload something I'd rather grab the edge of the bed mat and pull the whole thing towards me.

Good idea, thought I'm not sure how much food prep I'd do on one...

My lawnmower stays in the bathroom, but hat's off for needing one that big!

Seriously though, I doubt I'd actually cut on it or even season a steak on it. But wipe it off and make a sando or something on it? All day
