I was looking at the Pop and Lock tailgate lock for my taco but most of the taco owners complained about the camera position after the install. Is there a particular one that would misalign the camera? And what are other brands you guys suggest?? Thanks...

The pop & lock PL 8521 is an electric tailgate lock. It doesn't interfere with the camera.

I put a PL5300 one the one I just sold and have ordered the PL5500 for my new 2015. It worked fine for me. Nt issues with camera view, just had to move it to the other side of the lock.

I used an old gun lock I had laying around. The kind that loops through the receiver. It's worked so far.bc22332d376fe299b0f242ef17280b0d_1dda10352625ad48f0478d15f962dce539864bc8.jpg

The same shit everyone else has.
I love my power Pop N Lock. Keeps the OEM handle and camera.

    ^ this

Took me 2hrs to install and that included the run to the beer store. Simple mod, and works with your oem lock/unlock fob. Doesn't disturb camera in anyway shape or form.

The new pop and lock doesn't need to move the camera on the other side of the handle. Just did mine 2 weeks ago. The only problem i see with pop and lock is the material is kinda cheap. It looks and feels like it's going to break easily which it did on mine. The stud that holds the spring inside broke off so I have to do a little McGyver trick to fix it.

Where did you see that this is an option for the 2015's?

I'd be interested in that as well. Way too many stories on here with pop & locks getting stuck....not interested in dealing with that.

This was from the Southeast Toyota (SET) distributor, which is simply a Pop n Lock that they install. They've been doing this for a long time.

Bedrug, Access Limited Tonneau, Tailgate Clamp, Manual Pop&Lock Keyed and Painted to Match, Westin 3" Nerf Bars, 20" Chrome Wheels.
I got the manual one keyed to my ignition key. I had the electric one for my first gen Tacoma.

I like this new one, and the camera is very easy to put in, and works like the original handle.

I too had mine lock up on me, lucky for me when it locked up it was in the unlock position.

I contacted P&L and they sent me a new lock. They also told me there was a manufacture defect that was causing them to lock up and that was fixed and shouldn't be an issue any longer.

I agree they feel flimsy, but I could not find an alternative I liked. I don't care what you do, if a thief wants something, he's going to get it, lock or no lock. The best you can do is visually tell the thief there are better options elsewhere. Hince the visible lock on the tailgate that acts locked when he checks it regardless of flimsy feel.

Overall I would give the P&L a 3.5 out of 5 stars. Some of that is due to their Customer Service.

I have one of these too. Seems robust but I seem to recall there was a class action law suit against them for this product because it was misleading in some way. I don't recall the exact details but this may be worth looking into before you buy.

It specifically states on their site that it does NOT fit the Tacoma.

Does it fit and is possibly related to the class action suit?

I bought one years ago and have had it on my tailgate since. I saw something and maybe they decided after the fact it doesn't work and that's why the class action since they sold them on the marketing that it did. I can't say. Heck, I can't even find the details for the class action now nor to I recall specifics. I meant to look into it further and then just sort of spaced it I guess.
