In reference to the post that mentioned that it would be a warranty item: If the item was dealer installed it is only under warranty for 1 year / 12000 miles. The only items covered for 3year/36000 miles are items that were factory installed.

I was pointing out the trigger wires. please note the word "trigger" two times. I also mentioned that is was a cut and paste from the installation of power steps. I have just ready every post in this thread again before posting this and can not find any member asking where the power comes from, though there is discussion of how the trigger is connected.

IF you prefer to find out where the POWER for your tailgate lock comes from, that is a different question, Isn't it?o_O

I am sorry my post was of no help to you @Taconic . I do hope it may be of some value to OP and other members.:notsure:

Pop and locks don't run off of trigger wires. They are wired directly to power from the door switch. I was pointing out that you probably shouldn't assume that yours works differently.

There a plenty of folks who don't know the difference between a trigger and line power and how excessive draw on a trigger line has all sorts of bad connotations. There are tons of posts on pop and locks here, and nobody has ever suggested using a trigger line to power it. Your post could create confusion and result in someone damaging their truck.

Or I could be completely wrong and I apologize.

With how easy the actuator is to get to, Id rather just replace as it wears out. It's nice having it hooked to the passenger side though.

You can always get a switch installed that will let you turn off the tailgate lock.

@Friedtacolover is right putting on the passenger will take less than 50% of the activiity off. The all locks actuate when the lock button, or bars, are activated.

@Herniator has a good idea with the switch. :)

One step futher, if you really want an electric tailgate lock but want it to open or close on it's own independant of drivers or passenger door locks.

You could just take it off the door wires completely and put it on a button switch, it would only lock or unlock with the new button. It could be installed on the left side dash if room allows. I am sure there are a few OME look push buttons, but you may need some help getting it to alternate from lock to unlock. Maybe something like is on the door panel. :notsure:

Edit: Be aware that this option would remove you ability to control the lock from your keyfob.
