I’m hear if you have any questions. Feel free to shoot me a PM and ask any questions you may have. Kit is 100% Plug-N-Play and it Bolts directly time our OEM Reverse Camera. You do not have to tap to any factory wires at all. However, please do your research and choose what best fits you

Buy the OEM kit from Toyota. It’s better than a popnlock (much quieter) and is plug and play with no splicing required. I just installed it on my 2020 a few weeks ago. Includes OEM install guide as well. Easy install and it’s the one Toyota installs at the distribution center.

I have this and it works great in my 2020. It was installed a week after I took delivery by my dealer. Dealer wanted 90 to install but it was included with the purchase. I also went to the head unit to set door lock options to "open all doors" with driver door.

BadFlounder, did you install your self? I watched the install process of the pop and lock and the spliced into the wires in the cab below the glove compartment to get signals from the door locks. Service manager said the techs connected to the ECU. Were the wires terminated and plugged into the ECU with the factory trunk lock? I have not tried to remove the tail gate or disconnect the harness to see if they ran wires outside the harness covering. I was planing to purchase the "Pop and Lock" and install it myself prior to under coating the vehicle.

The "Pop & Lock" wire harness can be installed by drilling a hole in the harness clips as seen in some videos but I recommend a much cleaner and neater install done in this video...

It's not a pop'n'lock, at least not for the last couple of years. Here is the OEM kit I referenced. It comes as plug and play with an OEM Y-harness that you run up the right side and plug in at the right footwell. It even includes a cab seal that replaces the one you pop out from the floor under the passenger seat.

I did install it myself. With the OEM kit there is no splicing. You simply plug in the Y-harness near the passenger side footwell and the OEM plug you pop out plugs into the other side of the Y harness. Then you run the harness under the floor (it includes a new seal for the cab floor hole you use) and back to the tailgate area. The OEM instructions I included in the previous post are for the kit. The OEM kit includes new wire clips as well so you end up with both harnesses side-by-side going in and out of the tailgate/bed. It looks great. The only pain part of the install was running the new harness behind the exhaust because there isn't much room to get in there with the included metal wire ties.

I think the pop'n'lock is fine too, but the OEM is a slightly easier job I think....and it's not as loud when it operates.

Thanks, I didn't know about this. Wasn't a fan of cutting into wires on the factory harness.

Cool! The Toyota kit is more expensive than the pop & lock but it looks like you get more stuff included. I see replacement wire clips for the tail gate harness with 2 holes. With the pop & lock you need to drill a second hole or you can take apart the tail gate harness and include the pop & lock wires in casing (as shown in the video). The body length harness with heat protection for around the exhaust area is better and the plastic casing protecting the wire all the way to the floor entry point is excellent. Wire splices usually have to be wiggled over time to reconnect because of exposed wire corrosion so tapping in with the Y cable is so much better.

Now for the problem with noise if you find that an issue of the pop & lock. The new added remote lock assembly has a solenoid that drives a metal bracket which couples to the existing latch. You should be able to dampen the metal junction between the bracket and latch with a piece of rubber or a few of wraps of duct tape. Ideally you would be adding a bumper within the void area trying not to cause jamming or sticking. You want to use something that lasts. The metal to metal junction should not wear out but will always be loud when locking and unlocking.

I am happy with the low noise of the Toyota kit need some to feel confident it is locked without grabbing it each time.

I just spoke to my Toyota dealer in KC and was quoted $380.57 for the Tailgate lock kit installed by the dealer. I am having major elbow surgery this Thursday to repair and replace my Tendon and my right arm will be out of commission for 12 weeks is why i had the dealer quote install. The kit is $148.75 and $200 labor!

$15. Just needed an actuator, already had wire, loom and connectors. 30-45 min job.
