Well I'll be either getting the 5500 or that kit. May just go the 5500, but that electric one is sharp!

Great write up, no need for step by step if the instructions are good. Also great video to show how it all works! You send a link of that to Pop&Lock? They should add it to their site (get you some views ;) )

    ^^thanks man.

    Haha I should.

Another thing, I got another mod that I'll be adding to this current set up. Secret for now until reveal. Hopefully it's a first for a Taco.

^ Just put one of these in my '14 last night. Easy install, no problems. I routed my wires through the grommet in the passenger side floor under the seat and wired it to the passenger rear door lock. This provides the shortest/straightest possible path. I used a piece of coat hanger to get it through between the other wires that were already using the grommet.

I'm probably going to go back in to the tailgate and stick a piece of foam rubber behind the electronic locking mechanism as its a bit loud and at the time of installation I didn't have anything suitable to use for sound deadening.

Hard to believe they only use Fedex, USPS has great service now, at a fraction of the price...oh well.

    Got my kit today.

Installed the handle and ran the wire out of the tailgate, the rest will have to wait for a warmer spring day. For those who were talking about the size of the handle to open the tailgate I took a comparison picture.

I've had my 2nd gen Taco for 3 days now, and this is definitely going to be my first mod . It looks like the 5400 will be the best choice for me as I don't need an electric lock. Wish me luck :)

I just ordered one of the electric ones. Ow to fond the time to do the install. I'm planning on having a Viper alarm installed soon and I'm strongly considering having them do the lock install after I print out adio's pictures.

got the PL5500 from ebay brand new for $57 shipped.

theres a video on youtube that shows step by step install. very easy. took less than 10 mins.

same complaint here. the lift handle seems very thin. fitment is good. im just afraid that thin handle with crack/break after a few usage. time will tell.

its a very small key so to me it wasn't a big deal. plus im thinking if you ever valet the truck, all you have to do is take that small key with you if don't want them checking whats hiding behind the tailgate. just my 2cents

Hey, sorry if this has been asked 100 times already but I skimmed the thread and didn't see any mention of it -

Can you leave the Pop'n'Lock unlocked? I was reading the reviews and one guy was complaining that it was always locked. I'm looking at the non-powered model that can use your factory key, but not if I have to unlock my tailgate every time I want to open it. That would be way too much of a PITA. Thanks in advance!

Send it back and get what you ordered, and paid for. As for the codeable lock seizing, that was just one those bad batch from what I read only 2 members here had problem with. Plus Pop and Lock sent them a new one.

Then you'll want the PL5400, it uses your ignition key.

Yes you can leave it unlocked so it will open without the key.
