Looking for a tailgate seal that actually works for my 2017 TRD Off-Road. Looked at lots of reviews on Amazon but don't know what or who to believe so I'm turning to my TW brothers and sisters for help.
I wash my Taco in a high pressure Lazer Wash that also washes the undercarriage. Now I know that no tailgate seal/gasket is 100% watertight but there must be at least one that goes all the way around the tailgate that's effective. Any suggestions by those that "actually have one installed" on their Taco would be helpful and appreciated. :frusty:

    I have the Extang MaxSeal.

It's mostly effective. The only places water can get in around it are up through the drain holes on the bottom, or where your bed cover isn't aligned correctly. I know people who have used a black rubberized caulk to seal those drain areas but I've found usefulness in occasionally spraying the bed out and letting it drain.

Thanks. Agree on leaving the drain holes unplugged, makes sense. Any gaps on the sides of the tailgate with this Brand of seal? The undercarriage spray is very high pressure and will definitely force copious amounts of water where the seal is not tight.
    Very much appreciate your reply.
    Have a great day!

I wash my truck with pressure washers all the time, but I either use my own or the one at my local U-wash-it. That way I get to control where the water is going. I do sometimes get a little bit of water coming in, but it isn't much and it wipes right up. The important thing is I don't get any water coming in when it's raining (except when I childishly speed up to hit large puddles and ROOSTERTAAAAAAAAIIILLL!!!

    Because I'm secretly 13.

Rain is definately not a problem for me. I haven't even installed the drain hoses supplied with my MX4 cover because rainwater isn't an issue mine fits pretty tight. The problem is the undercarriage wash and it cleaned and protected my 2011so well that it's something I don't want to do without.
I'd be happier at 15, less chance of having pimples.
    Appreciate your input.

Somewhere in my build thread when I installed it I took several pics of the install. Click the pic below, dumpster dive. That was, like, 2 years ago and I've slept since then.

Then you might want to caulk up those drain holes, because a well placed Lazer Wash is going to get in.

Not sure if you are asking about the tailgate or cubby seals or who the question is directed to.

Removable rubber plugs would be my option of choice. Prefer a more temporary solution for those times that I want to wash out the bed.

Then here's your opportunity to invent a solution to a problem. Subbed for when this thread gets a name change to "look what I invented."

Can't take credit for rubber plugs or stoppers. They've been around much longer than I have and I ain't no spring chicken.

If anyone else has installed a tailgate seal that they've installed and found to be effective I love to get your input.

I just installed this and the rok block seal. Happy with the results. Had torrential rain for 36 hours and he bed was dry as a bone. Keeps 95% of the dust out too.C6F49349-3C29-4F6C-B47B-D93A5535123A.jpgF49F1898-7761-4189-8982-6080B22C4C61.jpg

If needed, are you able to remove the tailgate?

No, it’s stuck on with adhesive. I suppose you could if you had to, but it would be a PITA to remove and it would likely rip the seal in the process. Not the best for someone who has to remove theirs on a regular basis.
