Maybe interferes with the wiring for the camera? I know it has to feed from one side or the other, but have never looked to see if that kind of thing would interfere with the cable itself.

Nah, the wiring isn't near that hinge unless I can't see the 16" extension on that locking ring.

Tailgate theft is very real! Had mine snatched in a parking lot last week, middle of the day. Was away from my truck for 20 minutes. Was told by the property security I was the 3rd tacoma that week.
With that said if anyone is reading this, I just found out the hard way (but not that bad) 3rd gen have 2 different backup camera plug types. 2016-2018 and 2019+.

I just purchased a new take off 2018, the camera doesn't plug in where my harness goes from tailgate to body.
So if anyone is reading this because it happened to them and they purchased a used tailgate with a plug that doesn't fit there. I WOULD LOVE TO TRADE. :)

Anytime I look this one up at says it’s not compatible with the Tacoma though

I was wondering about the knock off as well. It looks like the internals of the sabellco is a brass mechanism. I would like to hear from someone with the knock off regarding that mechanism. If it's brass I would get the knock off.

I picked up one of the other knockoffs on Amazon: "GrteRokky Tailgate Anti-Theft Lock Compatible for Toyota Tacoma". It fit perfectly. I'll try to check the internals once I find the keys

Is that locking mechanism going to hold up to dirt and debris over the years without ceasing? Maybe it could just be drilled out, i dont know.

I'll try to remember to WD-40 it. Otherwise, I guess I'll find out.

Yep, I guess it was my luck on that specific piece that I got. I saw lots of good reviews post in Amazon that work it perfectly as the SaBellCo, but didn't fit on mine.

The truck is a new 2022 same screws and the plastic cover as my just sold 2016.

I said ordered since it's cheaper and free shipping, if not you can always sent it back.

    ^^^ +1 for SaBellCo

Made in USA machined aluminum VS made in China cast zinc ---> Enough said!

I'll always gladly pay more for the higher quality machined parts from the USA, over cheap, foreign cast overseas knockoffs by people who dgaf.

In my experience, SaBellCo have excellent customer service, and the part is worth the cost; and quality costs money. To me, it's just like people who build multi thousand dollar rifles with multi thousand dollar scopes, and put them in a 40 dollar gun case from wally world.:confused: I'd rather play the long game and think ahead, having it adequately protected and not ever needing it, instead of not having it, or having the budget options fail prematurely.

I installed the McGard tailgate lock today, went on super easy and fit perfect. I was impressed with it, not bad for $20. From Amazon

You're the first person I have seen mention gas being stolen from a Tacoma. My daughter's pre-school teacher had that happen to her Tacoma while at work. One day we pulled up to pre-school and there was kitty litter all over the parking lot....poor lady (20ish years old) had her tank drilled and gas somewhat stolen in broad daylight. I'm sure she would have rather just given them the 65 bucks it takes to fill a Tacoma up in Southern California instead of filing an insurance claim.

    Tweakers will be tweakers though.
