WTF - why would any one take a effing tailgate? Man I know we non-Californians think Californians are a bit odd and Texas is well Texas - but tailgates. Some one please explain to my frozen midget mind.

Put a clamp on mine shortly after getting my truck. Friend did the same and found his tailgate open but not stolen after an attempted theft.

    Stock for. Ow
Think about how easy a tailgate gets dented or smashed. Steal a good one and that's a quick couple hundred bucks on Craigslist or the like

Easy to turn around for a quick sale, and you can get a good chunk of change for them to boot. Buddy of mine had the tailgate stolen from his brand new Ford F250 right in his driveway. Replacing the entire thing with all the goodies runs thousands of dollars.

My dads f250 tailgate replacement last week $3200. I warned him to lock it. He left it unlocked for two days only

Holy shit, tail gate are big business I guess, thank you for the explanations. O know crime can happen anywhere, but I have never personally heard of anyone's tail gate getting stolen.

Or just add some big washers to the bolts where the cables attach to the bed so they can't be disconnected without tools. These are quick grab, rip out the camera wires, crimes of opportunity. If it doesn't come off quickly as expected, they will find another truck.

That said, I have a Gate Keeper on mine too, but it's rusting so it's coming off in the spring. I really don't need the washers or the Gate Keeper anymore because I added a locking handle.

As noted above, no, but it seems no better than the cheap $2 hose clamp. Or just install a pop n lock like I did.

How does a tailgate with a LOCK get stolen? I have no sympathy if you don't lock your tailgate and it gets stolen.

Agree. There are lots of other fancy tailgate locks out there, but the washers and/or a hose clamp will stop theft in most cases.

Most guys use one of these and put the key in the cab.

    Pop-n-locks are the best fix.

My tailgate is coming off when I install my swingout tire carrier. No real need for it at that point.

Hose clamp here. Twisted it so i takes a small wrench to undo instead of just a flat screwdriver or nut driver.
