I have had a different issue with my 2018 dual cab . I think a lot of people have the same issue but are chasing the sound. When my truck hits a small irregularity in the road surface the I hear a loud snap! Then I get the rattle squeak sound that seems to come from the dash. I have chased it for months using all of the fixes listed here but still had the noise. It sounds like plastic moving on plastic. I finally traced it to a small plastic piece that covers the wire coming to the front mirror. It snaps into the headliner and has small "fingers"That snap onto the bracket holding the mirror to the window. I used some of the rubber foam rope and packed it in the gap between the cover and the wire. So far so good. This was crazy to me because both my wife and I both thought it was in the dash. I found it by accident when I adjusted the mirror and the sound went away. I found if I put gentle pressure on the wire it went away. So far the foam has worked. If I knew how to remove it I would. My other concern is that the window is Flexing with the body, which caused the loud snap. The noise was so frustrating I was ready to sell the truck. Without the noise it ie a different truck.

I stuffed the 5/8" foam backer rod in between the dash and windshield a few days ago and it seems to have quieted my rattle as well.

Adding the foam between the speaker and pillar didn't work. I still have this very annoying plastic sound. Very frustrating because I can't drive and locate it.

I'll jam some more stuff in there, but I don't think my noise is coming from that side. The more I listen, the more it sounds like the center console.

    Try the foam backer rod.

I solved another rattle that sounded like it was coming from directly behind the gage cluster. The fastener holding the driver side foot vent tube was loose and had a washer rattling on it.

Had my truck in to the dealer two weeks ago with what sounded like a plastic end off a wiring harness slapping around behind the dash, closer to the passengers side. They managed to get rid of it, but with our now rough unplowed winter roads it came back. I took it to the dealer yesterday and the service advisor came for a ride with me, and noted the rattle. Of course when the actual tech went for the ride it was totally gone. I picked up the truck and there is no rattle again. No idea what the heck it is. It does sound like the plug end of a wiring harness bouncing around under the dash though.

Same with me. Took it to the dealership with a video. They were aware of the problem and it was covered under warranty. Since they couldn’t replicate the sound, I had to send my video clip to them. Apparently Toyota has been strict about this for warranty purposes. But they are fixing it for free.

Maybe with the cold the plastic "deflates" otherwise known as the Tom Brady effect....

I had this exact sound in my 18" I tried using the felt tessa tape on every surface that was exposed to "possibly touching" another surface and the sound went away for a while till the morning temps started dipping down into the 20's and 30's. Then, the sound came back with a vengeance almost like it was mocking me for even trying. So I took it apart again redid all the felt tessa tape only this time, I added two layers to the lower part of the a pillar surface, 2 layers to the side of the speaker grill that faces the a pillar and 2 layers of the tape to the side of the speaker cover that faces the windshield . I also laid the tape in a single layer on the tabs of the a pillar that insert into the dash. Its been a week now and the noise hasn't returned.

I'm gonna get some of that tape and try that next. This sound is driving me nuts.

I am with you 100% on that sound being annoying as hell. I am going to be doing the exact same thing to a buddies 2017 ACLB Sport here sometime soon when I see him. He said its driven him to the point of insanity on long drives. Haha

It is the sunbeam sensor. It's a small round sensor the size of a coin in the same spot as the speaker on passenger side. I haven't figured out a fix without taking it apart.

I taped up the pillar parts and that was a no go. I'll take a look at the sensor if I can get to it. I might just make the dealership do it. Might waste an afternoon/day, but it's worth it for some peace in my morning drive.

On mine I took apart Dash where the squirrel cage was for the heating and air conditioning unit the fan and it was my squirrel cage that was rubbing against the motor or something under there when I put in the air filter so I fudged around with that a little bit and no more tapping or vibration anymore

I have the same issue with my 1st gen. The air bag on the passenger side squeaking like mad. I stick a penny in the crack and it goes away. Then warms up expandes and the penny falls on the floor. Damn you Toyota noise. Great, now I get to wait for a new squeak in my 2017? Funk my face.

Oh man, thank you for clarifying it for me OP! I seriously thought it was a speaker going bad until I saw this post. That is the exact same sound I got from my '19, and today was the first day I noticed frost on my truck, so it makes sense. I'll have to try adding the tape like others have said. Exactly where should the tape go to get rid of this sound?

This may be almost 5 years old, but nonetheless, I want to say thanks for this. Your photo, and solution to push on the plastic a-pillar cover solved the most annoying squeak/rattle in my truck, that almost had me to the point of wanting to sell it.
When I pressed exactly where you indicated with the arrow, it popped into place, and I could see the mark where it previously touched.
    Thanks!

Well, it's cooling off in my area. Now my 2020 truck is rattling but seems to be coming from behind the head unit. Does the backer rod along the dash help to silence this? It is tough to tell where the sound is coming from, almost need a stethoscope to pinpoint the location.

89 Silverado where the dash met the passenger side pillar, found the gap was very tight and squeaking. Two minutes with a utility knife squeak solved !
