i have an external hard drive full of music. I tried hooking up to my usb in the truck, it didn't work. Yes I had it plugged in power wise.

Is there a way to get it to work? Is there a driver I have to download on the drive, or what?

    Thanks for the help.

I have a USB with about a 1000 songs. All I did was plug it in and switch the mode to USB.

Has anyone tried an external ssd? Also try formatting your external HDD to FAT32.

You very well may be right and I'm sure the OP values your opinion. I'm just trying to help the OP solve his original question

Has anyone tried the voice command to search for songs/artists? Does it even do that?

My initial thought on getting an external HDD to work, is it needs to be formatted correctly (as someone has already mentioned, probably FAT32) AND the directory structure needs to be right. I don't know what the HU expects as far as directory structure, but it's not the first time I've seen a device dependent on that. It's like the HU is hardcoded to find files in a certain place.
