Hasn't been an issue with mine. I updated it to the newest version I could find a few months ago and it has been fine.

I have had V14 for a while now. It only asked me for a new key once, a couple weeks ago. This problem seems to be coming up more often these days.

It might be worth checking out V15 and getting the key through the MHH forum? @cameleon50 and @lapoltba have posted the instructions for that setup.

    Thanks
    @tonered for the V 14 link.

Anyone Who Can Help or Have Tome Thoughts on TIS Issues:
Installed on XP Pro Virtual machine With Mini VCI V2.0.4 Kline + Can bus Xhorse 32-bit drivers ( I have an older Tacoma 2002 pre-runner think that is only KLINE & tried it on a 2007 Highlander). Seller from Hong Kong Ebay Won't Respond To My Questions - should I turn it into Ebay/Paypal.

TIS seems to crash when it is doing a health check at 2-4 of 12. Tried now V10, V12, & V14 same crash. Sometimes the health check is missing (seems to be a registration and region thing).

How do I tell if it's my cable, the car's computer, or the tech team version causing the issue? Could it be a virtual machine VMware thing? Anywhere to get newer Xhorse Drivers for XP?

I got it to run once completely by installing Europe Region, Albania, and I forget was it an independent shop. Then re-installed to get USA With Car Models and years, Europe only has model codes and engine codes. Has anyone noticed this that Techstream turns tan for USA and Grey for Europe? Seems to run differently as well.

    V15 Techstream Missing
Also, FYI Techstream V15 link posted above by @cameleon50 and @lapoltba is gone from Mega, it was deleted. Can't afford the MHH $25 subscription and then the posting member also charges a donation for the key.

    Thanks!

    You're welcome!

Just confirming. Are you using a Mac with a VM? If so, check in with @Shellshock . He uses Bootcamp for both TS and OVT with no issues and has in the inside info to getting Win10.

Here's some info that he posted:

I believe (could be wrong) that V12 was the last that works with XP. V14 and up needs at least Win7?

Given your location, I am pretty certain that you could meet up with another Taco owner that has a Tactrix? That way you can verify the cable versus computer situation?

I think 99% of the time it's the cable and/or drivers. Sometimes you get a good clone, often you don't. I used @tonered v14 on win10 home without issues and posted what I had used to set it up. Definitely wasn't plug and play; had to search around for the drivers.

I certainly agree that the cable or drivers is the most likely issue. It might be a good idea for folks to get a thread going and post up the working drivers in one spot? While I enjoy the Tactrix, I have used cheap cables and adapters in the past with good luck, mainly by crowdsourcing specific ones.

Still wouldn't hurt to jump off XP. I do miss it though. :D

I don't even know if my year 2002 supports tactrix. As the VCI Mini only can use Kline BUS not CAN I don't even know if the Nano Vxdiag works for that year.

I have Windows 10 and I researched for weeks on various forums before buying the cable and found out that many of the Mega software versions have viruses and spyware. They suggested using XP on VMware. I then spoke to the manufacturer in china of the cable who only sells to distributors. She said all Mini VCI only work on XP and Windows 7 properly. The Windows 10 she said has many bugs including hacking your registry, tricking it to use 32bit drivers etc. Heavily dissuaded me from Win 10. They were afraid of my older model 2002 that it would not work with V15 or be "pointless." I found the opposite. On V10 nothing seemed to work. OF course on Kline on 2002 you only get Engine and SRS Airbag. No auto vin input which is strange. I don't know if this is an error (hacked software or registration) or by design. The Highlander 2007 shows more systems but also uses Kline bus.

If the health check feature is not installed that means it's the lite version right and not fully registered with functionality. There has to be a trick to registration, user type, and location haven't figured it out yet other than tan for USA and grey EU.

It does get frustrating it crashing (TIS) when it does health check. V10 V12 V14. Various configs of location registration.

Ah! It seems that you have gotten in there quite deeply already and have gone well beyond my questions.

Yes. I would guess that your 2002 is going to be very limited on the programming / Customization side. Our older OBDII cars (1996 and two 2001s) had very limited programming. One had some desired features when set to the European config. Those were all before the software was hacked and available. Some folks were buying the $3k handhelds, or like me, begging the dealer with very good stories. While frustrating, we did get our preferences addressed and had to pay up only once.

For my 3rd Gen, the VIN shows up on TS. Both V12 and V14.

For those wondering why you need a new key seemingly randomly - techstream calculates a system configuration key that is then used to validate the registration key. Techstream will regenerate a new system key if you do windows updates or change hardware. There is a threshold at which a new system key is generated so not all updates cause issue. When the system key changes, the registration key becomes invalid.

    You're welcome!

I am sorry, but my only experience has been with my 3rd Gen with the NA registration working in Offline mode only. I do know that Health Checks will work, but I have never gotten a code or tried to get into TIS. On our other vehicles that threw codes, I mainly went with Mr GoogleWrench. Dr Google is another favorite of ours.

That said, I am certain that there are 1st Gen'ers out there that have been down this path. I also know that at least one person successfully flashed their 3rd Gen ECU with a clone cable. That is typically discouraged, but just stating that because the less expensive cables can get a solid connection and data transfer.

The only thing that I might suggest is linking up this thread and your posts in the 1st Gen section? There are a lot of ex-1st Gen'ers here, but the recent experience with TS may be limited?

It is my understanding that you should be able to connect to *any* toyota vehicle with *any* version of techstream as long as it is new enough to cover your model year. Having said that, I have no idea what would even be available on a 1st gen to adjust (I'm guessing not much). The cheap adapters and MVCI drivers were always a pain to get installed properly. FYI, health check isn't all that useful as even if it does show that you need updates, you won't be able to download them or see any of the useful information without paying for a short term subscription.

If you installed from the CD provided with your cable, I would suspect software first. Start from a clean XP VM if you are trying to use an older version of TS and find a different download. Alternatively, you can use a Win7 - Win10 VM and use the link in my signature. I would suggest skipping the Chinese adapter and get yourself something with current drivers and has been confirmed to work (Tactrix OpenPort).

I did check my link and it looks live from my end.... :notsure:

I think he was talking about the V15 link? The one at the top of the page in @cameleon50 's post quote is no worky. :pumpkin:

    You're V14 link looks good.

Late to replying but @tonered is correct. Per the TechStream requirements for Lite and Full version, you should go with Windows 10 with latest service packs. You can get by with Win7/8 but wouldn't recommend it. Also, dont recommend VM's either. I have used VMWare, Parallels, and VirtualBox and they are buggy with read/writes. Not sure what was going on so went full native OS on the hardware on a cheap spare system. I run mine on a 2013 MacBook Pro 13-incher with Windows 10 latest on it. Runs like a champ!

Thank you for that. The application spreadsheet in that was helpful. I wish I had that for earlier versions. It doesn't look like any 1st gen or 2nd gens are supported, although I am sure 2nd gen will work with that release.

The Exe is not that useful without the other less legal part. So far, the only less legal method for getting newer than V14 of TS to work has involved either 1. TSloader or 2. signing up at MHHauto and asking for "help". Method 1 means you can't flash TSBs (the CUW tool doesn't work). That is why I still have V14 in my signature.
