And after years of washing and caring for both, including today, fit and finish on the 4Runner is x10 in comparison to the Tacoma. But it is a more expensive vehicle so expected.

Agree with much of what you said. But the 4Runner rear seat has quite a bit more room than my old ORDC.

No way the rear space is the same in the Tacoma and 4Runner. I have both and it's not even close.

I sat in the rear of the 4Runner and there’s far more room compared to rear of the Tacoma double cab.

    I saw that.

I have to wonder what the sales of the Tacoma and Tundra look like as well, with the consideration that A LOT of them are sold as fleet vehicles. I swear, every exterminator, window installer, electrician and pool guy are driving around in a Tundra or Tacoma.

Not in Cali. I do see an occasional ford or Chevy but those look to be the bosses rigs full
Of advertising vinyl wraps and XD wheels and aggressive tires

On paper they're extremely close but in person, it's not remotely the same. I don't know how they measure it but the knee room in the T4R is exceptionally better than my DC Tacoma.

My 3rd tows much better and faster up grades than my 2nd did. Guess that doesn't count either.
My 2nd would bog down in higher rpms. 3rd moves out and gauntlet tow test showed it. 2nd was way behind.

Lol the "bad" years were 2009 and 2010, you know, when every other vehicle sales, including Tacomas, sucked due to the crash.

4Runner sales are around 150K a year. That ranks about 15th among all SUV and CUV sales. You would be surprised who they beat.

For an outdated body on frame SUV that gets flamed by the normal channels (CR, MT, etc) that’s pretty damn decent.

Sometimes I feel fellas need to justify the 4Runner. I know it’s japanese-built, and a very capable and reliable vehicle, but it’s not the perfect answer either, and has it’s fair share of downsides and complaints.

There is a reason every manufacturer, excluding Toyota, went away from truck-based SUVs as a market they felt like pursuing. The public just isn’t that interested in them, which left Toyota with all the (limited) sales. Meanwhile the mid-sized 4-door pickup market is off-the-charts for all manufacturers (except Honda).

The Tacoma ticks a lot of boxes for people. Maybe not all the boxes, but probably more boxes than the 4Runner, which in some ways is now an enthusiast vehicle. An awesome truck, but it’s lack of sales in comparison to the Tacoma is not without good reason.

I don't think the T4R is the end all be all of SUV's. but, it is a damn good vehicle that is very capable off road.

MT awarded the Jeep Wrangler with SUV of the year. WTF? Really? how is that even considered an SUV? while I admit, it is a very capable off road performer, it in no way shape or form is very comfortable or practical for a full family every day. just my opinion though.

but I have to admit, and again my own opinion, that there is no better looking SUV on the market than a T4R once you add the rugged looking wheels/tires and/or small lift. if they would offer the VooDoo blue on the regular OR T4R, my Taco would go bye bye very quickly...yes, I could get a Pro, but they don't want to negotiate on price on those in my area. but on SR5 and OR they will negotiate.

My wife wasn't with me today but asked that I test drive it for her and report back. Haha. She would "prefer" in her words a "luxury wagon" or the latest gen RDX. Ugh, eye roll.
