I believe Ford is switching the next Gen Explorer back to Body on Frame.

I'd be tempted to trade for the last model.year of the current gen T4R whenever that gets announced but the 4Runner isnt a pickup and that's sort of a big deal. If I got a 4Runner I know I'd just miss the bed and the pickup styling too much. And not everyone has the money or the kind of woman that we can just dump a 4Runner on and get to borrow all the time while having a Tacoma for ourselves

4Runners and Tundras are great trucks that I would love to own but the Tacoma is the vehicle for me I think.

The New Bronco is suppose to share the Frame of the Ranger, hoping to see a Manual Trans on it.

My BIL has a new 4R and it’s a very capable vehicle. I agree the Tacoma and 4R each have their strengths and play to different offices.

Just my .02 they REALLY need to update the interior and exterior of the 4R. I know some people like them, and I admit the Star Wars stormtrooper look has a certain cachet, but really. It’s 2019. It needs to look more streamlined.

The new Pathfinder will take a lot of sales away from the 4R. And probably the Blazer as well. They don’t have the same off-road capability, admittedly, but they are well-designed, have modern tech, and should be much more comfortable as a daily driver.

OTOH, the Taco is a really cool-looking truck that manages to look classic and functional and up-to-date at the same time. Again my opinion.

For rear seat space I was comparing my no sunroof tacoma to the 4runner. The tacoma with sunroof has a horrible drip in the seat ceiling height in back. I jumped in the back of the 4runner and closed the door and it just didn't feel big. I agree, probably a few more inches of leg room. This tr4 didn't have the 3rd row or sliding rear seats. The width and height in the back didn't seem much different than my tacoma. I have plenty of head clearance in both. I agree it's bigger but it's no tundra crew cab that's for sure.

Let’s race up a mountain pass bet your 3.5 shifts more in 5 miles then my truck does during 50 miles. Is that 18% more power or 18% more shifting because I think I know the difference. Give the prious back it’s engine:)

Coming from the reverse POV: I’ve had a 5th gen 4Runner for the past 8+ years. I test drove a TRD PRO taco yesterday and I was shocked how differently the two vehicles felt.

Driving position, acceleration ,visibility and overall driveability etc were strikingly different for two vehicles that share similar DNA.

It’s probably due to the trim level of the Tacoma I was driving , but it felt 100x more capable than my 4Runner.

Now do I wait for the ‘20 or get this ‘19 with a discount ...

Being in S mode I'll look in the rear view mirror and see if I can see you still. My 2nd Gen was slower.
8 track player was nice though.
Get a manual. Problem solved for you.

I saw the new Ranger yesterday. I didn’t even know they were out yet. I have to say it was hideous looking. Granted, it was parked next to an $80k Raptor

Same here in NY. Exterminators and the power company have pretty much switched over to SR5 Tacomas. They are everywhere as fleet vehicles around me.

You'd be a rare bird on the Toyota forums then. Most guys seem to go from Taco to 4R and not look back.

I've owned both, several times over. The 4R checks more boxes for me.

if you make buying decision based on 0-60, there are many other trucks out there with better 0-60. I was debating between 4RUNNER and Tacoma, bought a 4RUNNER because it was more practical for my usage.
