I work for a glass subcontractor

Looks like yours is all bolted together. Seems like it could then be folded flat once removed for convenient storage.

I have actually been looking at a kit for that and thinking I would like to put it on my list. I'm not a big Brown Ale fan; but the last time I had Moose Drool it was pretty good.

Where can this be had in a size that fits the bed rails? I'm thinking you could use those with a bolt that has a knob on it that would allow for hand tightening. Would be pretty simple. I guess you'd need 8 for a setup like yours.

We're on the same page here. That's what I was thinking. Could hang it on a wall or something and take up zero floor space. Looks like I'll be buying stock in metal cutting wheels. Then I'll need to get in touch with my Line-X friend.

This thread has a bunch of info on the different kinds and where to get them

    http://www.tacomaworld.com/forum/2nd-gen-tacomas/114001-bed-rails-attachments.html

This one looks pretty good, then you can just use a nut to tighten it down

Clayton, thanks for the link. Those bolts look great! I have an idea for some attachment knobs too.

I went to HD today to look at some steel and aluminum. Honestly, I think the boxed aluminum is probably plenty strong. But the natural overkill by nature side of me wants the steel....

One thing I was wondering was lateral strength. The style you did looks strong front to back but what about lateral stability? Seems like the cross member is the only thing for lateral stability.

Edit: Nevermind....just saw the diagonal supports that touch the cross member. Didn't see those at first.

Just ordered 20 of those bolts. I figured I'd need them for something else too.

Awesome, thanks for the offer. I'll hit you up if I need it. I have an idea that might work without any welding but I'm not sure.

Depending on the wall thickness of the alum., I'm thinking you wouldn't be able to put much torque on the bolts before you start bending the alum.

Good point. In my case the steel was cheaper as well

Right, I was considering using washers to spread the load over a larger area but I suppose the correct thing to use would certainly be the steel. It's just soooooooooooo much easier to drill aluminum. I guess I'll bite the bullet and go buy a few drill bits to throw away after I'm done so I don't screw up the ones I have.

Will say its cool going from the san antone area up to waco to see all new sea of tacomas! Couple of nice ones running around my campus (TSTC) including beau's. two others are first gens that look like chicks driving, one a 01-04 white ext cab, tinted taillights, pink browning sticker, stock 97-00 wheels painted black like on my truck with a blue circle painted in the middle. The second is a 01-04 red double cab lifted, bed bar with hella, ammo can, tire in the bed, and roxy stickers on it.

Ok, this may be unmanly....but I've never used a step drill bit.

I have basically every other size drill bit known to man. I have a set of forsner bits and I even have a hole saw. What's unique about a step drill bit and what's it best used on?

Pretty much what he said; but step bits are often better for quick jobs in non-hardened materials. I know they do work in hard materials (we used a set to drill my kegs out) but regular steel or plastics are great jobs for step bits. They are a worth while investment; but that is a chunk of change.

Sure thing man, just PM me and I'll help you any way I can.

Realistically I'll just need to drill out the holes for the fasteners on the setup. It would be nice to have a drill press one day but right now in an apartment (even with the garage) I don't have the space. My Hitachi LI drill works just fine for now. (love that thing:D)
