That >8,000 lb. winch is a waste of money.

Thank goodness I run an 8000 pound winch then. Wouldn't want my rocks to get stuck where I couldn't haul them back out again.

This is why the OP set up is stupid and lacks real world experience. Back story i climbed some big ledges got up there needed my winch to get up there too and to help stabilize for the trail we were on. Had to start on one tree then go to the next. Coming down off the ledges I ended up on the very side of the trail with a very long roll down a steep hill. @TacoFMS Had to winch the rear of my truck back up onto the trail with one snatchblock to redirect. Oh and my winch line is frayed about 40% through 20ft from the hook. So smaller set ups first of all won't handle this stuff second can really die quickly. Look closely and you can see the lines.

Next scenario is witching my buddy back on all 4s. A single line pull on the slider. 20 mind to set up my truck with a tail rope to a tree and my winch to his slider. Screw hrs setting up many many many snatch blocks and using a wimpy winch. You never know what you are going to get into or need to help etc. 20201101_120754.jpg

Pshaw, you don't need heavy rocks. Dirt clods are much lighter and can be every bit as tough as rocks if you prepare them correctly.

he could have used his own winch to pull the truck back on it's wheels.

Newp sure couldn't of not with where it was and how the trail was laid out. In fact after getting back on all 4s is how my winch line got frayed on the embankment leading into the trail. I had to keep tensions while he drove back and forward to get positioned on the trail as to not flop again.
Time to replace the line already.

I wasnt there, so i defer to the guy who was. We've righted our trucks a couple times in same situation. more forgiving terrain i guess.

Perhaps if that was the only option and He was foolish enough to venture out alone .

That I have done far to many times in the past and have been very lucky.

Stupidest, most narrow-minded, inexperience-ridden thing I've read today. And I just spent an hour reading YouTube comments.

Legend has it, he is still pulling his truck out. Some say he walks the trails hoping to prove to someone that it works.

I got bumper and 9500lb winch. Cost me about 800bucks with tax. And is about 300lb + .
now I’m selling the winch for cheap because too much weight on the truck.

I do love setting up complex pulley systems, but can definitely see the utility of having a mounted winch too. Don't currently have one on my truck but his post has me thinking about what I truly need.

I didn’t realize the winch with steel cable weight up to 130lb.
I lose less 1/4 for the hybrid bumper.
