Looking for a commuter vehicle, can be anything, would like to buy new. I’ve seen some advertised at this, looking to throw 1,200 lbs of tools in the back, and give me a fuel mileage break from the 12 mpg 3/4 ton. Would likely take out the rear seat and build a tool bin system, I would only drive this to and from jobs, filthy dirty on the way home.
Or maybe used, I dunno. $17,000 Tacoma available?
    Oh, and :crapstorm:

    Commuter? Get a corolla.

kidding. Idk of anything you’ll get into new for 17 grand. Probably looking at a couple years used in that price range.

If this was posted in 2010 it would make sense.

you can’t get much other than a micro commuter mileage car with bare bones drivetrain and features for under 20k in 2019.

Just looking at the inter dweed I find massive price differences, I’ll just pop into a dealership and see what is on offer.

w/$17k to spend with MPG as a goal while hauling 1,200# of tools, I don't think anything new is in your future.

As much as you may hate the suggestion, a low mile used Sienna or Odyssey may be your best bet.

That’s a lot of weight to romp around in a minivan for any length of time or distance....

I’d up the budget or look for a used full size truck, a Tacoma shouldn’t be carrying 1200 in the box for prolonged periods of time or distance either.

Well, after digesting what I wrote all board watching football, and seeing a local commercial, this is the reason I went with the 3/4 ton. My tool load makes it difficult for mileage, I loved my Tacomas, but that weight od’ed the capacity of Mr Tacoma. If I’m going to get a full size truck, my tools plus the 1000 pound 4 wheeler should be able fit in there payload wise, ain’t no 1/2 ton doing that either.
    I dunno.

Soooo, I picked up a 2015 VW Golf TDI Sportwagon today, haven't had a VW in decades and decades, very unfamiliar with the operating systems on this car, I have a steep learning curve ahead of me. Seems in real nice shape inside and out, 25K miles, silver, black leather interior, smells bad of cigarettes, but it's a work truck now, got it for $13,000, thought that was a good price for the shape it's in, I dunno. Crappy night time cell phone pics, all I have for now, rear seats laid down, tools in place, new sunpass, ready to go.

Put in taller rear springs, tinted the windows, new tires. I would guess I've got right around 700 lbs of tools in it, getting 45 mpg's. That 3 times better fuel milage then my 3/4 ton, the fuel savings pays the payment of the car, and some of the insurance. The nice truck has 52K miles on it, the car 25, in a year the car will have about the same image as the truck. I still drive the truck on the weekends.
