Well, I have a '07 and was thinking of looking at a brand spanking new '16.
Until I starting reading from different owners of new trucks complaining about what is wrong with the new model. Why should I or not think about the new truck.
Let's get it all out here.
Bitch, complain, vent about any minor or major issue or problem you have with your '16.

BTW I absolutely love my 2016 SR 5 speed manual 4 banger, got about 8900 miles on it and its been great. No problems what so ever! Plan on putting many more miles on it!

Yeah,I read the thread of the owner that traded his in after a few months.
His complaints didn't seem as bad as some others.
    Bring it on!

Do you need to know, or care?
Ok, you got it, I had to wait 2 weeks to take delivery, that's crap!

Had a couple issues, but love the truck.

Mine is perfect except for 3 issues (in order of severity):

    1. 2100-2400 RPM high frequency buzzing vibration in steering wheel and floorboard. It is like holding an electric razor or toothbrush in some instances. Ends up like Chinese water torture when driving long periods of time.

    2. Driveline vibration at low speeds, rumble strip feeling, happens all the time when coming to a stop too.

    3. Sometimes wind howls (loudly) through the window seals on the highway.

Mine is perfect except for one main issue:

Transmission- shift hungry, it down shifts all the time during a 70 mph cruise over any minor incline.

Tires- minor senseless issue, but I have 245/75/16 and they are factory aired up to recommended 32 psi (max is 51 cold), which is stupid because it has so much sidewall bulge at 32 psi and rides so bouncy at that pressure. I aired them up to 38 psi cold and it rides much firmer and my fuel went up about 2 mpg plus using the same steady foot/driving habits I have.

Unlike most people that bitch about the drive ability of the 16' go test drive one. It seems as though most people don't test drive or just go around the block. If you plan on spending $35k-$40k on a truck I'd definitely test drive it. As we don't need another "new owner" that bitches about the drive ability of it. I told my dealer I wanted to actually drive it before I bought mine.. So me and my sales guy jumped in and drove to my house about 20miles away and then drove my route to work and around town. I love the way it drives. I don't get the crazy shifting as others have bitched about. On the note of poor fuel economy, people don't like to adjust the way they drive first of all. All rigs are different. Change little thing on how you drive if you want good fuel economy. If you're worried about that toyota has a like of fuel friendly cars excluding the Tundra, Tacoma, Sequoia, land Cruiser and 4Runner.
On my way to work I average around 23mpg. On my way home I can average better then 25mpg.
I had an 89 Toyota pickup, 07 FJ, 2010 Tacoma, and now Lil Red 16' Tacoma. I like my 16' more then any others I've had.
In the family we have a 12' Tacoma, 13' Tacoma, 15' tundra, 09 Carolla, and a 05 Sequoia. Pretty partial to Toyota.
And so far the 16' is by far my favorite out of them all.
Cons- license plate light is full of water.
Temp over 80 degrees out my speedo needle is notchy in the movement. And so fuck head door dinged me.
Dealerships more or less suck. That's when you just call Toyota headquarters and they will fill a case with your dealer and get your complaints/ issues fixed without all the bullshit. Lil Red goes in Saturday for her 5k service and to get the light replaced and the speedo needle issue fixed.

Over all I absolutely love my 2016 and wouldn't trade her for anything else.... Well maybe a 17' TRD PRO.

When my truck arrived, my salesman told me to "take it around the block." I wanted to laugh and told him we'd be out a bit longer than that. We test drove it for 1.5 hours and I paid tons of attention to every possible issue that has been mentioned here. In the end, I didn't really notice any of them so we pulled the trigger. Of course on my 4 hour drive home, I began to notice the slight vibration/buzz when accelerating. At this point, it's nowhere close to as bad as what others are describing and I feel nothing in the steering wheel (knock on wood). I still think the vibration I'm feeling can be addressed and I'm hoping Toyota finds a solution.

That's the nice thing about having this forum. You're able to see what kind of "problems" people are reporting and be able to look for them while test driving one.
I was scouring the 3rd gen fourms for a while before I went to the dealer and looked at one. I was originally planning on getting a new Crewmax Tundra that day but decided I'd give the Tacoma a GOOD HARD look and just by looking at it while the dealer was hunting down the keys I fell in love with how she looked. And racked up some miles during the test drive. I drove up windy roads, hyw, city, my cummute to and from work and I was un able to notice any problems that others were talking about besides the shift! But the more I drove it the better it got in my case. My 2010 TRD sport only had 51k on her when I traded her for my 16'. And the 16' drives, shifts and overall feels and looks better in my experience.

My Woes in order of severity.

14.5 miles to the gallon on the highway, if the cruise control is used. Will shift into 4th and never shift out. I can get about 16.5 if I baby it and never go over 70 mph on the highway. I did put on 265x75x16 and some other stuff, sliders, skids. I also do live in Denver so 5280 above the level of the sea.

Transmission is crazy at times. 4 to 5 to 6 to 4 to 3 to 4 to 5 to 4 to 5 to 6 on a small hill. Should of got the manual trans.

I really like the truck but the transmission and the crazy shifting is making me a bit crazy.

This is the first vehicle that is hard to keep it at speed. I get it to a speed then just let my foot stay at the position and the truck will slowly slow, Then the transmission starts into its shifting thing. Seems like I am always giving input to the gas petal.

Same issues on my end. If I baby it and don't use cruise control I get 12-14mpg. I took it to the dealership for the shifting problems and had a computer hooked up to it and went on a 45 minute test drive with their lead tech. At the end of the ride all I got was "Yep, that's definitely not right" and "we can't fix it because Toyota themselves has to/all we can do is submit a report to them." If you don't have to drive the truck over 70mph a lot then it should be fine, but my commute has speed limits up to 85mph so this is the wrong truck for me.

Manuals are great, but they don't work for everyone's situation. Driving in gridlocked traffic for hours in Austin or Houston TX in a manual is not a good time to me. To each their own.

I would probably have a beater car if that was the case and use the truck when im not dealing with traffic on a daily basis. Can't really enjoy the truck much if you're sitting in traffic the whole way to and from work.

That's insane how little mpg you get. I have a shift hungry transmission too and the 2.7 4banger and I get 20 avg city/highway and 24-25 on long trips.

Anyone try cruise control at 70ish mph with ECT on? Still shifts like mad?
