The beauty is that at 80mph you will be feathering the throttle with your toe and still maintain speed

    Glad I could help.

Probably going to go 4.88 in my 2nd gen eventually.

4.88 + Supercharger on 255/85/16s ought to be pretty zippy.

Did the 4.88 gears and added a front locker at the same time and couldn’t be happier. Had just over $11k invest in my Pro Taco that I sold and now have around $9 invested in my Off Road and can honestly say this has been the best investment I’ve made to date. Highly recommend anyone who has an AT to do this mod first before investing in wheels/tires, suspension, bumpers, etc.

And big shout out to Mike’s Custom Toys out of Grants Pass. If your on the west coast I highly recommend giving Mike a call. He was great to work with and they did a fantastic job!

I paid $2572 installed from a reputable shop that specializes in gear swaps, got Nitro 4.88 and CV bushing.

How do you like it so far? Did you feel difference right away? Do you have to bring it back to shop after the 500 miles?

@Semper_Fi No comment, only have 65 miles and put 6 heat cycles. My top speed has been 52 mph on the speedometer on the freeway(exit it on and off). Mostly been driving thru 30-45 mph city streets. I turned off my Pedal Commander and will continue to drive conservatiely until 500 miles. Likely take it back to the shop for 500 mile oil change. Rearend is quiet, I can't hear any whine nor suspect issues with install.

After the Nitros were installed I was in a hurry to get home and took the short way home... My first heat cycle as I left the shop was a little over 30 miles on a hot day, with a 5 minute break half way. It included driving uphill for about 2 miles at 50 mph. I stopped for 5 minutes at the top of the hill, and I continued at 50 mph.

I was swearing at myself... I was thinking odds are high I messed up the gears. The rest of the break in was by the book, but the first one was bad.

This weekend I changed the diff oil with great trepidation, and there wasn't even the smallest metal shaving in there. :bananadance: :broccoli:

Nothing shiny at all in the magnet. No whining, nothing. Perfect gears. F*&*, did I dodge a bullet... Those things are tough, if they are properly installed. Still, not recommended to do what I did. I should have taken the long way home.

A little under 250 miles to complete break in. I’m getting better mileage with 33’s and 4.88 than stock gears with 32’s. I think I could get over 20 mpg highway, I’m still doing city & highway driving. Also, speedo is off about 3-4 mph. So realistically, 20 mpg don’t sound impossible with conservative driving.

    Not much stock left.
Damn! That’s impressive. I have 285/75/17’s and if I have a strong tail wind I might knock on the door of 17 mpg’s, and that’s with the summer blend.
