Indeed in November been pretty cold, and it's a struggle on the highway to get it over 20 mpg. Commute I can barely get it to 18mpg now. As predicted.

Anyone know a shop in Oklahoma that can install 4.88 gears and possibly offer the REM polish too?

Just had 4:88’s installed by @Texoma Saturday and Sunday ....
I also had 04b33 flashed last Thursday.
Huge difference for the better! I have about 280 miles on it since the 4:88’s went in and so far, love it!!!! No more gear hunt! Can actually accelerate in 6th gear. Holds 6th gear on overpasses. No lugging and the “dead pedal” feeling seems gone. This enhances city and highway drivability big time! So far, feels like the 4:88’s work well with 04b33 but need to get some more miles on it. Will share more after more miles and I get the gears broken in and can tow.

This is a 2019 a/t long bed Offroad on 2” lift and general grabber atx P 265/70 17’s on 8.5” (24lb) wheels and no added armor. To me, 4:88’s seem perfect for this (32”) tire size and bet it’d be fine for lighter 33’s as well. I’m at ~2250rpm at 75mph in 6th gear.

I’d like to thank and highly recommend @Texoma (central Texas) for gear installs and anything else you may need including
suspension/armor/bmc ect ect. He did an awesome job on my gear install.

I wish I were local to nitro gears so badly! I'd already be scheduled for a regear.

Anyone ever have a 4.88 EXPLODE, DETONATE OR OTHERWISE DIE?

Reports of of Nitro 5.29 blowing are quite disturbing. OK one guy. Any 4.88 Nitro gear sets die prematurely?

Anyone that has 4.88s and hasn't gotten OVTuned, do it! My MT is a whole different animal, it's even more perfect even with all the weight.

I have 275/70R18, bumpers, winch, skids, sliders, and bed rack with stock gearing. My Mpg dropped from 18.5 to 16 with my 2016 Sport MT. I have zero idea how to tune my truck myself and was wondering if a regear or tune would be better. I'm not worried about being sluggish, as I've tried to build a tank not a speed demon, but want to get better mpg's without sacrificing wear and tear. I'm just trying to get my truck to 250k miles without any huge mechanical replacements

Also if the OP has any thoughts or anyone else, I would much appreciate it. Seems most people here are AT so I'm not sure how to move forward to help my truck. Thanks

I don't have as many heavy accessories as you but I do carry some heavy loads in my long bed.

I would say you REALLY NEED both. But absolutely regear first. Consider 5.29 if you want a true tank.

OVT if you want to enjoy your truck though.

5.29? That seems overkill but what do I know lol do you know much about the associated MPGs with them though? I enjoy my truck now tbh, I'm just looking for long term savings and long term lack of major repairs. But again, I have no idea where to even begin OVTune and trying to find threads on here havent been too helpful

Heavy weight, you'll never get those MPG's back. Gearing might make it worse.

4.88 is fine with MT, but if you want the ultimate. 4LO with 5.29 in a MT is gonna be a great crawler.

OVT? I would either contact them directly, go right to their site and/or jump in the thread or start a new thread and make sure they explain it step by step.

That's what I was confused about with this thread. People are saying they've regeared and have made their MPGs go up but mechanically doesnt make sense

You can also save money if you find a local person that does ovtune. I did that and saved some upfront costs.

Also, Ive only made up minor mpg gains on my driving habits, not regearing or other stuff.
