Question for you: Did you keep your stock 4.30s? Looking for a take-off set for my 5 speed.

I’ve heard I would have to take apart my diffs to send them to him tho which seems pretty timely. I wish I could cause several people have referred me to him so I know he does awesome work but if I could find a shop that’ll do everything that’d be great.

I don’t think he is doing mail-ins at the moment. He basically took 2022 off

Been looking at both 4.88 and 5.29 threads but I think I need someone to just tell me what to get.

    I have 2021 Tacoma TRD 4x4
    - 285/70/17
    - Prinsu Roof Rack
    - RRW Rock Sliders
    - TRD Skid Plate

I do not plan on running a larger tire than a 34 (285/75/17) due to the fact that I don’t want to cut into the truck to make 35s fit. This is my daily where I travel 50 miles a day doing 70-80 on the interstate. I don’t want it to rev too high since I’m on the highway a good bit. The prinsu rack does create some drag but not much. Just want it be more drivable and dailyable without it becoming annoying.

Sorry AT, don’t have any plans on future mods either. Armor not needed for here on Georgia Trails.

I maybe Off Road maybe 4-5 times a year. So it’s not that big of a concern.

    Eibach stage 1 -wheeler’s 2” aal-spc uca’s FN 5 Star w/Falken Rubitrek AT 265/70r17. Nitro 4:88’s KDMax tuned Leer 100r

I have 4:88’s long bed AT no armor with leer shell and carry ~100lbs in bed, 2” lift and won’t run bigger than p rated 33’s. I’m on p rated 32’s (31.7) now. Also have kdmax pro+xt tune. To me, this setup is perfect. I’m at ~2250 rpm at 75mph. I don’t off-road sans beach driving and dirt roads. I do tow a boat (~1800lbs) at times and tow in S-5….tows very well!

    Just for reference, 5:29’s would be doing 69mph at 2250 rpm’s and 77 mph at ~2500rpms with 32” tires….
***your 33’s or 34’s will be doing a tad less rpm’s for the same speeds vs the 32’s. Overall, at the same given highway speed, there is about a 200rpm difference between 4:88 and 5:29’s.

You’re gonna have to decide if you want the “possible” tad better mpg’s that 4:88’s may give you at highway speed. If you’re driving mostly flat land with slight hills the 4:88’s may be perfect for you. 5:29’s will afford you the feeling of more torque since you’d be turning more rpm’s…. But since you’re turning more rpm’s mpg “may suffer” a tad vs 4:88’s….I say “may suffer” because there are too many variables to consider. Let me add that high winds have a big effect on mpg’s on these trucks….so it’s something else to consider especially having a prinsu. We have very windy conditions here and it plays hell with mpg’s!

Most on the forum will prolly say 5:29’s. If you’re using E rated tires and added weight on your prinsu and bed then even more will say 5:29’s…

Good luck and either way, I HIGHLY recommend a tune along with your gears….Makes another big difference for the better.
