That's not his style. Captain Indecisive will go through at least a few more iterations of bed racks, caps and RTTs first.

I was actually happy I only had to put down 50% to get in line and not the full price. Everything else I bought from small custom shops for my Taco has been a 100% up front and a 4 to 6 month lead time. Gives me 6 to 9 months to save up more money and have a spot in the queue.

Has anyone gotten a color match powder coat? I have a silver Taco and like the aluminum camper but dont want to deal with oxidation as it wont look good after a while and clear coat is not yet available from Vagabond. Dont want a white or black color as the white doesnt match at all and black will get hot in the summer.

I would not want to shell out $1200 for a non clearcoat powdercoat that is not color matched with the vehicle. You can professionally get your drifter painted from a reputable shop (not maaco) for around $600-1000. This is the route I am going with when I get my Drifter at the end of the year.

Obviously it's not OC, but I'll be in Ventura County ~ the 13th - 17th next month.
I've got family and work obligations, so I couldn't make it down your way, but if you wanted to drive up, I'd be open to seeing if we could work out a good time.

Getting very similar results. I also have an LRA and armor. 265/75r16s currently and probably speeds up to 70, but 15.5 was about the average over a couple 5000+ mile trips.

Went to town on sealing the bed today. Pulled off the caps and taped the holes then applied a bead of silicone all around and put the caps back on. Pulled off the front cap as well and sealed it. Removed the cubbies, sealed all of the holes then applied a bead of silicone all the way around and put them back, sealed the outlet too. Still need to seal the drain holes and two open slots on the front left and right edges.

Does anyone know if the bed rails need to be removed and sealed as well?

Bed stiffeners are arriving tomorrow so I will put those on and the bed should be ready for the drifter.

Do you know about the OVTune tuning software for the 3rd gen Tacoma? I have been running it on my truck for about 6 months and with the MPG tune my truck gets 20+ mpg on long trips with the whole family. I have 33" mud tires, 4.88 differential gears, and a long range fuel tank getting about 600 miles on a tank. Filled up today at 510miles and it took 26 gallons so thats about 19mpg for that tank.

Was that your IG story? What's your IG? I thought I sealed mine good, but I still get dirt between the voodoo cap and the pinch welds..I gotta pull off the drifter and redoit...also there's a gap the side walls and the front (closest to the cab) how did you address that...thanks

I didn't see any reason the tie-down rails would need any sealing.
But do make sure you look underneath the bed rails from inside the bed towards the back. There's some gaping holes up there you'll want to address.
Also the seams where the composite bed ends and the steel begins towards the rear.
And definitely get a tailgate bulb seal to go all the way around.

Looks like xplorn has a 2010. I know there's a tune for the 4.0 too, but I doubt the results would be directly comparable.

I've got the tune on my truck, but I very rarely see 19 mpg. I'm really curious to hear what your mileage is like once you get your Drifter on.

I just slapped some painter's tape along the front and rear of those gaps, then dumped silicone in there till it was level with the rails. If you do the same, just make sure to give it a solid few days to dry all the way through.

Im not sure what IG is but I haven't made a seal in the corners close to the cab. I have some pieces of bulb seal in there now but its not really a permanent solution. Was thinking of doing what some have suggested and filling the cracks with silicone with tape keeping it from going all over the place while it sets. Also there are two slits on each side towards the tailgate that need to sealed as well.

IG is short for Instagram. It’s where all the degenerates go... or where I go to find new ideas on better ways to improve upon my build.

For you guys trying to seal the 3rd gen truck beds, here's a little gift today.

These are the little front rubber seals that are used with the OEM tonneau cover. It looks like they can be purchased now.
