That's kind of where Im at as it rains where i live 9 months out of the year. Might just pay for the grey powder coat as I have a silver truck. Unless Vagabond offers a clearcoat by the time my order heads to production. ATOverland do a clearcoat as standard and their campers are all aluminum so it is doable. Vagabond are you reading this? Peoplz want clearcoat!

We are working on offering that as an option. The price difference is $1,650, between the Drifter and Summit, and may be a bit more if you include the front and rear windows and interior light that come standard with ours.

While we would like to offer clearcoat standard, it would result in an increased base price.

I believe they are saying around 340lbs for the base model

One of the reasons I went with a Drifter vs a Summit is because you guys offer a superior package for a better price. I only mentioned that the Summit comes clearcoated to demonstrate that its possible to clearcoat aluminum, not a knock against the drifter not being clearcoated as standard.

Not sure. I only have one FR door and no fan.

I believe @Anderson has that setup on his drifter though. Maybe he has a better idea.

    ...too much shit to list.
    Drifter is 340 pounds.
According to front runner website, the Gullwing door is 34 pounds. Obviously some material weight is removed with the giant hole cut out for the door but it’s at least somewhere to start.

I couldn’t give you a straight answer. I’ve never weighed it when it was just the Drifter. There’s too much in the bed now to empty it for the weight. I wish I could help, but I’m not at a point where I could give a straight answer.

survived some really strong eureka dune winds yesterday in Death Valley. this thing is built like a tank, didn't even feel the need to angle the truck as the wind shifted. that ceiling support strut thing is a beast. had it not been for the drifter, we'd probably have left up the canyon to find shelter.

    Check out the build
Love hearing this man! Thats exactly why we built the Drifter that way. It may not be the prettiest, but it sure as hell makes up in strength and livable space. The while point is to live in the elements not go home because of them.

Thats actually pretty funny as the first time I saw the drifter I totally skipped it because i didn't like the way it looked. Then i came back to it a few times and dove deeper each time, realizing that it is a well built piece worth every penny. My main point of dislike was the rear hatch, just doesn't look right, a solid aluminum piece would look much better imo.

I actually love the look of a Drifter. I really like a Drifter color matched especially if you have a white Tacoma. I am definitely getting mine color matched ASAP when I get mine. A Drifter on a Tacoma with a lift, bigger tires, bumpers, etc looks like a total adventuremobile, BADASS!!

I am glad the Drifter can sustain some servious Death Valley winds as I go to Death Valley a lot during the winter months. I know how windy Saline Valley and Eureka Dunes can get also.

Do you travel through Steele Pass?

Sounds like a plan. There is a local micro brewery about a mile from VO HQ.

The cutout weighs about 8 lbs, so about 390 lbs total owith both Frontrunner doors. The doors are beefy. Like “hit with a baseball bat” beefy with powdercoated steel reinforcement behind the +/- 1/8” aluminum door.

Our white powdercoat is not color matched, but pretty close.

As far as I know you can get them made with an aluminum rear hatch.

For what it’s worth, I preferred the tinted glass rear hatch as it allowed me to see out while I was inside the tent. My swingout tire carrier could lock closed if necessary, so security was never a concern - and typically I would just back into a spot and get as close to a fence or pole as possible to prevent someone from opening the swingout and being able to smash their way in.

Being able to see out came in handy when camping outside the Grand Tetons...

You could also just Velcro some reflectix if you wanted the additional privacy.
