I asked for prewire solar to be in front of the bed on passenger side. That is where the cable was on the inside. It was behind that corner panel. However on the top of the unit it was in the front on the driver side which is the side I needed to mount my Rocketbox as the awning is on the other side. Did not expect that. Not a game changer, but would have been a cleaner wiring scheme on top if it had exited on the passenger side like I assumed it would be. You might want to be specific about the top location as well as internal.

    Yeah. Waiting is hard.
But ya know what’s harder than that?....

Having the entire world shut down due to covid and not being able to work at all while people continue to be concerned about wait times and build numbers and dates.
So not only do the lead times get delayed then add to that the suppliers who are delayed as well and everything just compounds. It sucks.
I feel for the VO crew during these unreal times and hope they can continue do their best to keep everyone happy by turning out an amazing camper, but more importantly stay safe and healthy. Because at the end of the day that’s what really matters.

And as stated before by everyone who does have a camper, they are worth it! Such a great product and by far the best wedge campers out there.

    tl,dr

    VO kicks ass :D

Very well stated. Many people don’t realize how many supplies have extended lead times right now. On top of a production delay there are likely many procurement delays for VO. They are awesome people and want to get these built and delivered ASAP but many things are out of their control right now.
I love my drifter and know that anyone who waits won’t have any regrets

I have some pictures of the solar gland and pre-wire toward the end of pg 1. As others have noted, this could be self install. However, I have NO experience cutting holes in camper roofs and keeping them sealed. VO has a slick way of cutting a hole through the overhang so leaks would be impossible.

I'd never drilled holes in a roof either, but it wasn't difficult. My camper was pre-wired under the bed platform, but that's all. So I used a Renogy gland, measured twice (okay, about 10 times), and drilled away. No problem. As MapJunkie alluded to, keeping the passthrough outside of the tent area is key.

If anyone is curious how much a short bed Drifter weighs with double solid frontrunner doors, L tack, insulation, I have a fan but its in a box (not weighed).

Before leaving weight was 4680 lbs with full tank of gas, empty truck.
Just weighed the truck now and it weighed 5180 lbs with full tank of gas, empty truck.

    Drifter weight 500lbs.

Do you have a fan? Could be the extra bracing in mine for the fan install.

You got a picture of your SB DC tacoma build. Seems like most are done with longer beds and access cabs. Anyone know of used drifters?

Yeah, had the fan installed as part of the build out. I forgot a couple of items actually so in total, 485# includes
    • base drifter
    • sliding front window
    • 2x solid front runner doors
    • Fan
    • STS Awning Brackets (2 mounts on rear, 2 on passenger side)
    • Front Runner 6ft Awning (with STS awning brackets mounted on it)

Wow, those FR doors really are beefy.
My short bed Drifter with fan and 2 glass windoors was 400 lbs.

She will like the ease of getting in and out of bed compared to the GFC. And the warmth.

Tell me how it looks better? Don't get me wrong, I like the looks as far as they go, I was considering buying one, but tent windows are in the wrong place, wedge struts are on the outside waiting for a nice strong branch on a narrow road, and cool looking open side panels let all the bugs in. Black, though.

I’d be willing to bet there are far more short bed builds out there than long beds.
Interesting choice of threads to post that. And....strongly disagree.
    Drifters are pure sex
VO offers Drifters in black :notsure:
