Could it be the mounting seals rubbing against the mounting surface through vibrations while driving and creating a small black residue?

You could try to put some (NON hi bond) double sided tape in strategic areas as a material trap to identify the source.

Most likely coming from the bed frame. Rubbing bare aluminum create the dust you speak of

Anyone have any issues with their interior lighting? Somehow mine all turned on while driving home from my last trip and wouldn't turn off. I unplugged the connector and re-connected it which seemed to get them working again but now I've got nothing when I went to use them tonight. I'll have to pull the taillight and check connections and fuse but I'm still getting power to my bed power plugs.

I haven’t had an issue with the cabin lights, but it could be the switch has shorted.

The connector is only for the red led tail light mounted to the rear window (unless you’ve wired your power source through the connector as well). I’m no expert, but on my camper the interior lights are on a completely separate circuit.

I have done the same with my install. I have a separate battery for the Drifter. Otherwise, it would need a separate cable run from the battery. The lights take 5A, chargers 5A max, and the charging port can consume 5-10A. It would be safest to put the Drifter on a separate fuse.

Can anyone provide the the exterior top width of the drifter? I debating whether to mount the ARB (49"w X 82.5L) OR the 55" Front Runner. I'd also appreciate any thoughts about one vs the other.

I would go 55"; it sticks out a bit but I appreciate the extra width. 49" fits like a glove though.

I have the ARB 49" and it does, indeed, fit super well across the back of the Drifter. Wouldn't personally like the extra width protruding beyond the Drifter, but I am a picky SOB.

I just picked up my Drifter and the connector has 3 conductors in it. Two of them are for the 3rd brake light and 1 is for power for all Drifter lights including fan.

I might change this in the future and put the lights on one circuit and the fan on its separate one. Phil said the fan draws very little current when I was there.

Good to know, it’s likely dependent on when the camper was purchased & various options. Mine is almost 1.5yrs old and the VO guys are constantly innovating.

Don’t know if this helps or not as I am not sure what issue you are really having. I bridged the 3rd brake light wire (just the the yellow one) with the factory connector into the “Drifter” cable which goes to my portable battery in the bed. I keep the battery in the bed all the time for now as the solar keeps it charged. When I remove the battery, I plug in the connector from the engine bay which was the original factory connection. Works for me.

I wouldnt recommend The 6 ft awning on the back of the drifter unless you have it in quick disconnect mounts. The extra width is awesome when stationary but would be too wide/ risky to have it sticking out full time. The solid mounted 4’ on the back with a solid mounted 8’ on the side is popular.
Personally I run 1 6’ awning on smart touring systems quick disconnect mounts which allows us to move the swing to all three sides. We run it off the back most often when camping and in the side for travel. All of these options are available thru the Vagabond boys!

I have the same connector with the 3rd brake light wire in it. I pulled the panel and just made sure all the connections were snugged up, reconnected the plug in the pic below and the lights are working again. Figured the washboard road might have loosened something.

Edit: for reference the Drifter lights are powered from the OffGrid Engineering bed power I already had before the Drifter was installed.
