From your experience, does it get hot if the top part of the shell is also powdercoated black?

Nope. Emailed about getting a build # added to the camper for insurance a couple weeks ago and haven't heard back.

@SaphiraTaco or @Trdooper should be the next closest to hearing something. #140 was the last confirmed one I saw rollout. Don't know anything about the last rollout on IG they did the other day.

Pretty sure @bigdumplings got his too which is #146. Like has been stated before don't read this as they built six in that time frame. These are invoice/order #'s and not the actual total # of Drifters in the wild if that makes sense.

No word yet on #150. I emailed about 20 days ago trying to get some clarification from them but no response yet.

Hopefully soon? I know I'm ready

I am looking for a solid solution for this. I'm curious what everyone has done about the gaps at the top corners of the tailgate.

so far no but I’ve only had it in cold weather.

the ceiling has never been hot at least so insulation certainly helps. Only way I’ve heated up the camper after a cold night (not including my buddy heater) is when the sun shines through the window. If I keep everything closed it stays pretty cool. Again, haven’t had it in the summer or a hot hot day yet. I have spent 5-6 weeks out of it so far tho.

Lots of compliments in the ski parking lots.

I'm #180 and Phil told me tentatively April build. Haven't heard anything since. Are AluCab Awnings basically in stock? Because I have added that to the list along with a solar panel, insulation package, and a usb port in the ceiling over the bed for an IPAD mount. Also want the mounts for my Maxtrax installed and rotopax water and fuel for the other side. I'm not doing any side windows and getting the full value of the insulation package.

Anyone have a good torque spec on what to tighten the drifter clamps to?

I noticed it wobbling a lot when driving so I went to see if the clamps needed to be tightened and sure enough they did!... like a lot!

If you over tighten them, you'll end up buying new clamps like I just did.

GCI G-133 clamps have a torque spec of 80 INCH POUNDS (6.67 foot pounds). That's not very tight.
    - GCI-G133 product page

I snugged them down after the front two clamps were loose after doing the White Rim trail and noticed that the bolts themselves were slightly curved from being bent from over tightening.

Man, you’ve helped me out a lot! Looking forward to New Terrain meet up. If we all get sloshed you think they would be cool if we slept in the drifters? Jk... sorta.

    Potentially St. Patty’s day?

Clamps should always be checked periodically, especially when the install is new as the bulb seal will compress over time.

That being said if you were noticing the camper in your rear view mirror then that's most likely due to frame flex. It's crazy how much movement there is in the rear, you just don't usually see or notice it. Having the camper on the back gives you reference points and all of a sudden you're able to see just how much side to side and front to rear flex our trucks have. Took me a while to get used to it, and plan on boxing my frame at some point to remedy. I've been in trucks where that's been done and the movement was significantly less

The 2nd gen frame is stronger than the 1st gen, but it still flexes like stated... I was really worried about my 1st gen because on concrete highways it would start oscillating/bucking and with a sunroof I would just see the Drifter overhang bouncing several inches up and down...

I own said Tundra, although it has an Icon 3.0 stage 2 with Icon Leaf pack. Personally never been a big fan of Ford trucks. But you'll see how this video relates to the thread.

    yeah, saw that one.

makes me wonder how controlled that test was tho... as we all know there's plenty things that can improve ride quality (or adversely affect it too if you wanted to make someone else look worse)

    * the wheel base of each truck vs the spacing of the bumps can change the rhythm of how it cycles
    * vehicle speed (they SAY 25mph but was that really consistent over all the runs?)
    * the size, load rating and pressure of their tires - soft C rated tires on the Ferd vs overinflated D's on the others would make it look much different
    * if there's any extra weight in the bed (conveniently can't see into the beds)
    * any other mods or differences (I see the Ram has a rear sway bar but doesn't look like others do)

Not saying there's no difference between them but that crazy a comparison? i take it with a grain of salt. Plenty manufacturers out there inflate or spin their claims to pump up sales - 'our product is the strongest, or lightest, or coolest blah blah blah' o_O

Proof is in the pudding - Toyota's legendary reputation for reliability and try Google 'million mile truck' or 'most reliable trucks' and Tundra is always the first result
