Mine was the very first camper to get PC and has help up well... no noticeable fading. And that's actually quite impressive considering just how bad a PC job it was lol.

The first powder coating shop VO used didn't have a big enough oven to bake it properly and he attempted to bake in stages. It is by far the worst pc job on any of the campers to date.

I cleaned a section off with Simple Green for the pic, excuse the pin stripes and other abuse/damage and dirt lol. It's lived in the California sun since October 2018

I have had many bicycles that have been powdercoated. Only the bright neon/DAY-GLO ones were suggested to have additional UV coating applied. I have not noticed fading on these bikes and while they were not stored in direct light 24/7, some were decades old and just showed surface scratches.

You must be a Spectrum Powderworks/Dark Matter Finishing fan, since they are both just down the hill from you. Ollie a longtime friend of mine! I've had a couple Spectrum jobs over the years. Would happily support Ollie in his more recent DMF venture if I had a bike that needed painting...

I am, but I've only paid for "cheaper" powdercoating and it has been great. Spectrum is out of this world. Think of if they did a custom design and powder of your Drifter for your business!

Has anyone compiled a list of all the available options not listed at the start of the thread/on the Vagabond website? It would be great if the second post was updated again with all the options and some of the commonly requested modifications like exterior lights/awnings with associated price ranges. I know the options below exist based on what I've see posted here and what they promote on their IG, but I haven't been able to locate the cost for of these additions. I'm likely excluding a lot of things so I welcome any input. Just trying to make sure I don't forget anything as my build options will need to be finalized soon-ish...

    • Bed Extender Platform: $???
    • L-tracks for camper sides: $250/side
    • Custom Powdercoating: $150 for roof l-tracks
    • Tent Insulation Package: $595
    • Awnings / awning brackets: I know this varies based on awning brand/type/size, but any sense on the price range would be nice. For reference - adding ARB 1250MM awning on the rear runs $225 for the awning and $100 for installation. I know they like to install smart turning systems quick release brackets for some of the side mounted applications, but not sure the cost. This is something I might want to consider adding even if I don't have an awning on the side at the time of taking delivery.
    • Exterior mounted lights: Again I know this will vary based on price, but if they typically recommend a certain brand/style anyone mind sharing what they paid?

I've requested a couple of additional modifications (related to lighting/powder coating), and am still awaiting to hear back on what those will run. Once I have that info I'm happy to share here.

Unrelated - a couple of questions to all you lower insulation kit owners...How's that holding up overtime against water/dirt/dust? Any regerts? Has anyone tried to wrap the insulation in marine carpet or anything to try and make it more functional while living inside the drifter?

I have left mine bare. It's the same material as the inside of the roof, the inside-top of the overhang where the mattress sits on. It's very sturdy stuff. Outside of having something rub on it, it is pretty resilient.

@socalexpeditions bought his with it carpeted inside (by the first owner) and is planning on removing it due to absorbing smells and such... right?

The material is called ACM if I remember correctly. Aluminum Composite Material. You can buy it in sheets, but it is not cheap!

@anomalyTRD 1st off -- badass rig. 2nd -- sorry for the incoming barrage of questions ;)

    - Did you have to do anything to the suspension for the extra weight? I'm currently bone stock, and while things like lifts and tires and all that are in the future, wondering if/how long I can get away with running stock suspension.
    - Do you know your overall height?
    - How is your mileage now (and what engine do you have)? I've got the 5.0L V8 and average about 17mpg currently, hoping fully loaded it doesn't drop too much below 15?
    - Are you able to share bed to bottom of the sleeping platform dimensions? Wondering what sort of space I'll be working with. Really any dimensions you can share are greatly appreciated.
    - Have you built out the inside? If so, can you share some pics?
    - Did you get the frontrunner doors on both sides?
    - Do you have a separate battery system in the bed? My setup unfortunately doesn't have any power to the bed (I miss that from my taco...), so trying to think about how I'll handle that side of things.

Anyway, I'm sure I have 70k other questions, but any of your other musings, experiences, and insights are awesome.

Oops this was meant for the mod buildout thread

Working on redoing the interior. Using 1/4” Red Oak.

Picked a grey/blue stain, but I’m color blind and picked a color I wasn’t too fond of. Cut more pieces out and will restain with something else tomorrow. I’m a fan of showing wood grain and semi-gloss - I thought about doing aluminum (1/8th inch as a faceplate), but I’ll do that when I redo the 80/20 pieces. Wood feels homey and I like that. I’ll take more pictures tomorrow.
