Wedgiefest, aka the solo tour/fellow drifter trip around BC is shaping up. Trying to minimize asphalt travel.

So, looking to do this in late aug/sept. Banking on 6-7 days in British Columbia. Areas would be:
    -lillioet, 1 day
    -stoyma mountains1-2 days
    -Princeton/coalmount, 2 days
    -kootenays, 2 days

Not huge travel travel days, 4-5 hours top, lots of places to see, rest, camp, beverages, etc. I have the areas pretty much mapped out, just working on finalizing some details. Trails, etc won’t be released yet, until I fine tune it. Kootenays, i’ve Got a few areas, but need to chat with some buddies.

Trails overal would be moderate off-road, family friendly, and just exploring one of the better areas. May need to carry a chainsaw.

Wildlife, expect spectacular views and slots of wildlife, carry bear spray it is active griz country, and is nearing hibernation time so there actively out scavenging for food. I’ll have a shot gun as well as bear spray.

Views, breath taking especially if there are not a lot of fires.

Anyone interested send me a pm. I may open another thread. I will be doing some exploring here on long weekends over the summer to make sure the trails can be all connected off-road. Would recommend minimum 400kms fuel range and a cpl of jerries. Probably not needed but always good to have.

Talk to ok4wd, the latches are the exact same ones the Alucab use. They found a better latch for the winter similar layout, but easier to open and they do not stick as badly. Regardless carry wd40 And lock deicer is mandatory for these latches.

I’ve had similar issues with the latches collecting snow and freezing hard overnight. I’ve got a little butane torch to thaw them out in a few seconds.

If a person wanted to utilize a ladder for in/out, can either side window (and screen) be opened from the outside or no?

Only the rear window opens all the way. Side windows are always screened at a minimum.

Yes, this was done on purpose to help keep the shape of the window, since they are so large.

Ah that is why that was done. I didn't;t realize this when i first got it, I was like wtf, they forgot to put zippers in the side windows, then I realized after it was probably done on purpose and didn't matter ask would never use the side windows like that. It all makes sense now!!

Can someone with a third gen and Drifter measure the length between the “feet” of the Drifter where the opening is the widest? Just above the tailgate? I assume at the base it is equal to the truck’s standard opening width. Is that true? Or is it nudged in a little?

Aren't the beds the same width all along? I just cut out my top plate for my new storage system and never varied the dimensions and it is tight, probably too tight.

The Drifter doesn’t encroach on the width of the rear access where the top of the tailgate is? I know the window tapers in and the loading width is narrower at the top. But at the very bottom of the window, is the Drifter at all encroaching the width? It’s hard to explain, I’ll try and highlight what I’m talking about.

It doesn't encroach on the bottom of the widow the truck bed has a metal area where bed supports are usually mounted. They measure 53 in between and the window sits out side of those.

Sadly no wife and or kids, I blamed the dog. My chosen career field construction industry keeps me gone for too long and I work to many hours and i have way to many friends on their third marriages. I chose long ago to not go through that until I get a job where i have regular hours. self pity over.

I was a sailor in my past life. Once I finished working in the belly of those beasts, only then did I decide to try and settle down.

I use to spend many a hour scuba diving through those belly of the beasts. Man I miss diving. Sadly this land locked bs sucks.
