Great thread, Monte! I don't have time to read every post, but I skimmed it enough to see most of what you did with your truck - wow! What a journey - truck looks awesome!

Impressed with your welding skills, like the original rack and such. the BAMF sliders are awesome as well...

hows it going? looking good. also how hard was it to build your bed/over the cab rack/light bar? i’m going to be buying a welder soon so i can finely learn to weld. after i do my roof rack. i’m going to help a member close to me (Mountainman94) build some kinda rack for is truck.

idk what exactly he wants other than it being removable, just trying to help him with ideas. also do the extended cabs have mounts on the roof, for a roof rack like the DC? sorry i have idea if they do or not.

No there are no mounts on the roof. Why my design is just suspended over the roof completely. No drilling.

It was pretty easy i thought to build it. But im a pretty mechanically inclined person and my dad helped me make the base and he is VERY mechanically inclined..so yea.

I didn't think it was hard at all really. Just time consuming.

ok i did not think so, but was not 100% sure.

and ok cool. and yeah i’m ok, i know quite a bit. my dad sucks but is pretty good with wood working and stuff. lol

but i’m pretty exited to learn how to weld.:D sadly if i don’t buy one i don’t ever see me learning. i don’t know anyone close that has one. i HOPE next summer i can build an expo trailer. thinking 5’ or 5.6’ x 8’ sitting about same hight as truck and on 33”s. should have a few fold down tables on the walls, some storage. as far as sleeping i’ll just set up a cot(old army cot or newer style) or maybe just an air bed. i want to keep it kinda open floor plain, so i could use it for just about anything. i thought about a M416 and RTT set up, but the price of the M416’s and the RTT and what ever els i had to get for the trailer to be rolling good.(most likely i would have to do some work on the trailer) i came up with 2,000 to 2500 for everything all set up, trailer having same bolt pattern as truck and everything i could think of. i think for about same price maybe a little more. i could build an pretty nice inclosed trailer, and i don’t have like any set up time or take down time just hook up and go.

i think some stuff in the build we be based off of colinb17’s trailer.

oh i agree it would be better off road. but i kinda like camping all year, and would like something that is a little warmer than a tent. also could use it on a trip to alaska, i could prob just go to a truck stop and get some pretty good sleep.
trailer looks really good adam! :D i have read some of your stuff on expedition as well.

Oh ya man! Sorry ill get on that tomorrow!

In Wyoming you have to have it inspected by the police. Fill out a custom vin form. Supply info on all parts used( axle or whatever) then pay like 20 bucks. What I had to do for the truck too

dmv gives you a vin or SN number, some states inspect it some they don’t. also in TN we don’t have to do anything, we don’t have trailer tags.

edit: also if you saw some of the POS trailer i have seen on the road, a home built off road trailer is WAY safer!
