I got up early, put my boots on, and went to work in our shop out back. My right boot felt funny, so I took it off and turned it over and a spider just like this one fell out! That thing hit the floor with a PLOP and I didn't feel so good. I caught it in a cup to show my wife because she says every spider I see is a giant. She agreed on this one though. This happened about a month ago and you can bet I shake my shoes out religiously now. The spider was OK, I let her go. It's real bad luck to kill a spider.

lol this thread has reached all kinds of levels of awesome. We've got everything from the PETA - Spider Division to smashing mexican spiders with hammers. And Chris now feels completely surrounded by giant homicidal insects.

When I first got to the desert I started flipping sandbags and looking under buildings for desert creepy crawly poisonous things until a friend of mine with prior desert experience pointed out that I was actively searching for things that could potentially kill me HOURS from a real hospital (we were in Kuwait). That got me rethinking my amazing plan, but not before I found a huge pointy desert monitor lizard under a set of stairs. And then tried to chase after it. And then remembered the whole "It could kill me thing" and stopped crawling on my hands and knees after it while it was backed in a corner.
