I have a cheap wire welder but not sure how well I would like the spool gun. I do like that it does more than one thing but this is what I'm leaning towards.

I think it comes with the regular wire feed handle and the spool gun for aluminum welding, welding would be cool to have.

I'd love to have a generator/welder, best of both worlds during a hurricane

 

I already have a Lincoln stick welder but have been looking for a mig welder. That's how I found that one. First one I've seen that does everything and by using a multiprocessor. I doubt I will ever get into Tig soon, but the ability to do so is appealing. I've also ran the spool guns when I was welding for Mag-Alum building their boxes so that is no big deal. It does take all the normal Tweco replacement parts but I am concerned on who local could/would work on it for repairs. That will really be the deciding factor.

Things wanted in the mig welder...

120/240 ability
High duty cycle 30%+
Infinite adjustability for amps and wire speed
Ability to use a spool gun for aluminium is a plus

I just wish I can find a stick generator welder that offers wire welding as well. I want it portable, not like the big millers permanltly mounted. Worst case I think I might be able to get a smaller Hobart and have the stick generator power it

 

Sounds like a solid route. Don't need 220 for the smaller wire welders either. Flux Core will burn good up to 1/4".

There are plenty to choose from out there but would like the opinion between the difference of the sealed ball joint units vs the uni-ball style.

Ball joint doesn't give as much flex and they wear out. Uniball give ultimate flex they wear as well but literally can be replaced in 5-10 minutes. I like my icons and worth every dollar. I

I vote the ball joint ones from SPC. I've had my ball joints on for 3 years now, just grease them regularly and never have had a problem. I keep a spare ball joint on me when I go places, pretty easy to swap out. I'll never go long travel so I didn't see the need for the uniballs. They all have pro and cons, just gotta find the pros that match the plans for your beast.

If you can't decide which UCAS, do a SAS it seems like the next best logical thing to do
