Looking for advice, input, clarification ....

Got my new 3rd members installed and about to start my break in procedure. Directions are vague in my opinion. Basically after initial drive, drive mildly and avoid changing speeds frequently for no more than 50 miles at a time and then let it completely cool down for around 20 minutes. Or am I suppose to purposely vary speeds (mildly)? Do this up to 500 miles and then change oil.

No mention of 4wd. So I presume it is the same, as in two break ins. One for rear diff and one for front? Or am I missing something and there is no break in for the front?

So, plot a 40 mile round trip on the freeway, drive mildly at a consistent (or varying???) speed and then get home and let it cool. Repeat till 500 miles. Change rear diff oils ( both? ) Assuming it has all been 2wd break in. Is there a front break in? Do the same for the front, minus the freeway and basically baby my truck offroad till 500 miles? Is light 4x4 use okay or recommend against in the first 500?

    Please advise

I'm being impatient because ECGS is closed and I cant call till tomorrow.

Ahhhhhh, he's why I eat Crayons. He got drunk one night and did it. I keep it to remind him he can drink too much. It doesn't work.

You do want to vary your speed and not cruise at the same speed for more than a few min, as in don’t use cruise control. When I was breaking in my gears (and also Adams gears) I’d vary my speed by 5mph every few minutes when cruising on the freeway. Jump around between 60-70 mph. Don’t do any hard accelerations or towing during this time.

For the front I think it’s less important. After the 500 miles I changed the oil but it looked brand new. I don’t know if our R&P spins in 2wd thanks to the ADD system in the trucks. I just switched it into 4wd during the 500 miles when I could, i.e. rainy day in a straight line on asphalt but didn’t get many miles this way. No problems. I think if it mattered so much, they would specify. Assuming you got it from ecgs.

Thank you! Okay, do vary speeds while driving mildly...check.

I thought the same because off the ADD, but found no mention about front diff break in. I can throw it in 4wd when I have the opportunity. Do you think light/mild 4x4 offroad is advised within the first 500? I have a project site I go to once a week or so with a mild 4x4 road and some mild hills. I prefer to take my truck with this pandemic shit, but can always go into work to grab a truck.

Other than my extremely minimal break in (seriously, I maybe did 20 miles) I didn’t baby it off-road at all.

Edit: I don’t think that would be an issue I just reread that. Really depends on the hills

    You run a scangauge right?

I'm looking for a temporary solution for correcting my speedometer and more importantly odometer. Reading the manual and the TRIP function states that after being off for 8 plus hours it moves miles traveled to previous day and the following day deleted it from previous day. That right? Meaning unless I'm writing this shit down I wont be able to track mileage? Or does it have a miles traveled field that continually adds to and stores unless you reset it?

SG/UG are useless in that regard imo. I have a Dakota speedometer correcter. I wouldn’t rely on an UG/SG to track speed or mileage or anything. Not even mpg imo. The old fashioned way is the easiest and most accurate.

Today is paint day! Got it all sanded down with 100 grit and then gave her a bath with some dawn dish soap. Will go telework for a couple hours and let her sit out and dry. Last thing I want is a water droplet to run down into wet paint.

Then I’ll bring her in the garage, wipe her down with xylene and mask it off and get to painting.

That's not really the same truck right? This is after the paint job right?

Edit - Use a leaf blower to ensure there is no water in any nooks and crannies.
