To be honest I think it's the top parts that's the different part....it would make sense to use the same lower and Change the uppers length since it's already different for the uppers

If you dont use a longer LCA, youre going to force your alignment so out of whack. the 5 lugs cant run bigger shocks straight up and down.... They have to be cocked way wider... Take a look at Stupidhurts 5 lug long travel kit from American Motorsports... There is a clear fault in the fact that Brian tried to make the shocks go straight up and down... He placed the LCA shock mount way too close to the engine, when it should have been near the wheel hub.... You have to angle your shocks and the only way to do it is a longer LCA. That's why the Total Chaos bolt on kit only added 4" of actual lift.

Furthermore, the Long Travel UCA for the Total Chaos LT kit was also way longer, and drooped as to allow for the shock to fit at an angle

Question - I'm running 30x9.5's w/ no lift. I'd like to add a small lift, but as it is now, 5th gear is nearly useless. Are you guys changing gearing, or just dealing with it? Any feedback by those w/ lifts is appreciated.

Lift doesn't affect gearing but tire size does. Check out the tire size calculator to see how different rear axle ratios might work for you.

Hey guys, getting a steal on 2wd taco but really can’t stand the stock ride height. Was very thankful to have found this thread!

What is so controversial about the spacer lift?

Anyone here run them for a large amount of miles? What was your experience?

    Thanks

There is a number of guys like @SamGoingHam @5 Lug Fury that have been running spacer lifts on and off road for awhile now with no issues

Well that’s great news since I ain’t got it in the budget (or the know how) for a full lift!

Are you guys using the one from Bobs?

Is there that much rake on these tacos that 2.75” levels it with the back or what is this consensus on the difference?

Thoughts on wheel spacers? Just looking for something to get them slightly out of the wheel well. Was checking out spidertrax 1.25-1.5

Lastly, my mechanical know how is limited to oil changes and basic maintenance, am I gonna be slamming my face against the wall if I attempt the spacers on my own?

    Thanks taco bros

We pieced our kits together. eBay 3 in spacer is like $50 and is a true 3". Then theres an aal, ubolts, and new rear shocks. We suggest Bilstein 4600 fronts and 5100 rear ( unless you want a fox shock rear). All that info and links are on the front page of this thread. It's highly doable and there's some videos on YouTube. The only thing not clearly shown is the top hat needs to rotate to allow the spacers boots to line up. Good luck and post pictures when done

@5 Lug Fury basically explained all of it. I started with the Readylift. With front and rear installed, your truck will become leveled. No to wheel spacers if you off-road imho. If you want it out more do it the right way(wheel offset/Backspacing). I also have a 1in body lift and a rear shackle flip.

I would recommend installing it on a off day.

what was your opinion on the ready lift kit? my girl ran over a screw yesterday and while I was getting it repaired I asked for a quote on a lift. the 2.75'' readylift was their only option and they quoted me $500 out the door

I'm seeing the kit online at 340+tax so that doesn't sound half bad considering it would probably take me 4+ hours (or 8) and I'd have to rent/borrow tools

You can piece together a kit for way under $340. They key question is do you want to learn and work on your truck or would you rather pay for someone too? My philosophy is to buy the tools needed (usually at harbor freight because I'm cheap lol) and do it myself. Yes it takes more time but I learn and enjoy working on my truck, there's more of a feeling of accomplishment when you do. Also you save hella lot of money usually.

I'm a firm believer in Toyota built, not bought.

My Readylift has never given me any problems. Like Kenny said, piece it together. It'll be cheaper that way. I wouldn't even bother getting it if I wasn't planning on installing it myself. On top of that if something went wrong, you wouldn't know what it was coming from AND the fact that you don't have tools for your truck flusters me:confused:

But it's your truck at the end of the day, if you wanna get buttraped on prices then be my guest:spending:

I have a couple questions. I have a 98 5 lug, standard cab. I already have Fabtech 3" spindles in front and 2" shackles in the back. Tires are 235/75/15 on Jeep Grand Cherokee Canyon wheels (15x7). When I put any kind of load in the truck, The rear is lower than the front. It has a fiberglass shell on it . I already bought an AAL for it, just not installed . With a load, my leaf springs are flat or arched the other way. I was thinking of getting 01-04 leaf springs used and putting AAL to get more gap in the fender, and maybe a little more load capacity . I was considering for the front either doing a coil spacer or replacing the coils? Just looking for opinions on this plan. I'm on a budget unfortunately . Will the AAL last with my stock leaf springs in their current condition? I realize with the coil spacer, I'll only get .75" lift. Should I just get the v6 coils? Is there a new replacement alternative to the v6 coils that will lift my truck more? Looking to sit about level, but a little rake is ok .Mostly used for curb hopping and mild trails camping. Here's a pic as she sits now .

For the rear yoh can toss a AAl in and get a little extra load capacity. But 5 lug leafs are soft and don’t support much to start. The fat bob AAl (long leaf) gives i think about a extra 100lb capacity.

As for the front v6 coils can give up to 1” extra. Paird with a spacer maybe make that 1.5” at most. Personally I wouldn’t bother doing coils for that much lift, mainly because workig on 5lug coils is such a pain. But your call. You can also get the doestch tech UCA kit and coils which is a 3” lift.

all the info can be found on here. If you have any more 1st gen question feel free to ask in there too

That looks sharp. Unfortunately I totalled my truck. Ended up moving up to a 2002 extended cab prerunner with the 3.4. Absolutely love it!
