you could build a lower rack and see if anyone around you does any custom canvas work to dry it in. basically it would be a lower soft topper that could handle the weight of the rtt.

    Thanks man!

Yeah, I live in the foothills, south of Denver. We probably wheel the same trails!

Yeah, maybe I'll try that approach. When I buy the tube for my rear bumper, I'll just order extra. Then I can play with different length legs. So, was Top of the World tippy at all with 2 tents on your rig?

Top of the world is a chill trail. I bet he had no issues.

But yea I'd make a full bed rack and then just make a canvas cover but if it was only 9" tall it would be low but still pretty dry.

My dad and I have been planning on making canvas for ours. Just haven't done it yet.

I didn't really think so, we were on the way back and hit that up. I wasn't really trying any hard stuff since we had a long drive back

So, how difficult are the trail you guys would run with the tents on? I thought I'd do Hell's Revenge or Fins n Things but not Steel Bender or Metal Masher... If I knew I was going to do a trail like that, I'd probably leave the tent at home... Or am I being too cautious?

Depends on how hi it is..

Joey did Moab rim I believe and the Z turn with his higher then mine. He hated it though and everyone thought he would tip. He went home and lowered it that fall haha down to a 11"? I think..it's like inline with his cab now.

I'd run fins n things..that trail is super easy. No off camber really. Just steep but straight. Hells I'd do too. Pretty chill trail too.

It's off camber stuff that gets multiplied big time. I have had a few pucker moments with it so high.

When I link the rear I'm going to lower it a ton. Probably be a rack rail height if 4-6". But it'll be removable.

Yeah Joey did moab rim and z turn I was puckering watching him

the only trail I didn't have the tent on for was hells but that was only cuz I didn't have it yet

If I had it on the roof for the trails I don't think I would've came back in one piece, mostly from moab rim

^Man, you guys are more gutsy than me. I don't think I'd want to even have my current camp setup on for Z turn. How did yours feel when you did it?

Going up Z turn not bad at all…. going down its a completely different feeling I felt tippy at spots but it wasn't all that bad.

Well, maybe I'll build two sets of hoops for the bed rack. A tall expo set that sit over the topper and a short bed height set for when I crawl the truck.

You could just forget all that complication and buy this:

Good price too from what I've seen. I've been eyeing this one for a little bit now, they're hard to find. I do fine sleeping in the back with my current topper though. Kinda decided I don't need to spend the money on that right now.

That's a better price than a new tent, that's for sure. Do you know how many people can sleep in it when it's open? (I'm aiming to sleep 4 comfortably...)

Hey Timmy, any idea how heavy they actually are? I saw a U-ship quote for 250 lbs...

Wildernests are sick. But only sleep two as the part that folds over to the passenger side is the bed. The bed area becomes the place you can stand up in ext. Just like a flippack.

also just an FYI there buddy...once you get a 6' tent..and swap a 5' bed in...haha what are you gonna do?

^Yeah, I was wondering that myself... even with the Mt. Rainier. Isn't that thing longer than 5 ft?

I wish they made a Mt. St. Helens with an annex. That would be perfect!

This is a different one than was posted all over TW a month or so ago. The high rockies craigslist isn't too popular. I've been keeping it to myself while deciding if I really wanted it. :D

I remember reading they are like 250-300lbs. My ARE topper is like 120ish.

Yeah, I would really like one, and I know how hard they can be to find. Its just not at the top of my prioities right now.

Also, if people were short like me. You could sleep two on the platform, and two in the bed of your truck. I'm 5'8" and sleeping in the bed of my truck with the conventional topper is acutally pretty comfortable.

Yea the Rainier and Hood are exactly the same just the rainier has the over hang that covers the ladder to make the annex much bigger. But they are both almost 6' long.

this is my dads on a long bed 2nd gen..(the bright red one lol)

    ^Hey Blackdawg,

Do you think anyone else would be interested in a Mt. St. Helens with an annex? Maybe I could talk Bobby in to a 1-off experiment? Having an expandable hardtop version just sounds nice to me... especially if it's snowing or raining.

Squeaky: I'm like you right now. Wifey and I sleep in the bed of the truck without any issues. BUT, I don't have any storage back there when we do. Just the foam mattress.
