From what I've read the stud doesn't need to be grounded. There was a diagram that I used I may be able to find it again. But I only have 2 o-rings. There isn't one on top of the mount.

That's what I was looking for. I think that the stud is somehow coming into contact with the mount thus grounding it out. Which is why you take the mount out and you get a perfect SWR. It's a common issue with firesticks

Totally thought that too so I bought a volt meter and the top of the stud isn't grounded ):

No clue then tbh. You could try and take it to a trucker stop, they'll know how to fix it

Make sure your mount is grounded to the rest of the truck, as well. You want to have continuity going from the ground on the coax cable through the mount to the rest of the truck so it all stays grounded with the radio. Usually that means you have to leave the mount bolt hole un-painted or sand it smooth or run an extra ground wire to another part of the truck that *is* grounded.

It's well grounded. Ran a wire too and it made the swr worse lol

A multimeter is your friend! Check continuities and resistances and you'll be fine.

What's the resistance like on it? I imagine it should be fine in terms of grounding, but I'm wondering if it's just the super low location of the mount that's throwing things off. It looks like it's near the bottom front driver corner of the bed, which means that the base of the antenna is surrounded by lots of metal, which is probably throwing off the wave propagation and thus causing more power to reflect back into the radio (high SWR).

It's been a while since I've looked at my SWR meter. Is the 4 that you're reading off of it the max, so the meter is pegged high? That would likely be a grounding issue, I think. Tough to diagnose from afar...I'll shut up if you're over testing it.

It did not max out the swr. Year it is at the bottom! I tryed it at the top of the bed and had same exact numbers. I don't remember the number, I used the sound thing on the multimeter. It also was enough of a ground to light up a 55w halogen

Ill trade you for those MTs, although I have 5 TE wheels wrapped with 285/70-17 KO2. They do everything I need but wish I had MTs. I will be around that area on my 21st for a Toyota Pismo meet which youre more welcome to attend

I would be down but I have my heart set on R/T's and already agreed with Jason on a price for these. Thanks though! When will you be at Pismo?
