I don't think the majority of the people who lift to look better do it for judges; they do it because they want to look better. I don't think wanting to look good makes someone narcissistic or vein. I do everything I do in and out of the gym for me first and for my fiancee second; I don't want to look like a fat slob and she doesn't want me to, either. There are professional bodybuilders who don't compete and do it just to look better. Again, I don't think wanting to look good makes you a bad person.

I agree with you on the "best version of yourself" crap. That just sounds like garbage to sell products.

You could take your powerlifting and olympic references and apply the same logic though: aren't they just trying to be the biggest and strongest in the sport to feed their ego? I don't think so, but that's how it seems you look at bodybuilders.

Before I go any further, let me define my interpretation of what bodybuilding is: working out in the hypertrophy range to increase muscle mass, while also trying to lower body fat.

I don't see what the big deal is. Some people want to put on muscle for the sheer sake of looking better; it's the same as buying a pair of shoes, wheels, or sunglasses, except it's deeper than that because it's you actually working your ass off to change your body, a feeling you can't get from simply buying something.

I will say that "bodybuilding", as with any other sport, has douchebags. I don't think someone who has been lifting for a week can call themselves a bodybuilder. Also, I don't care if I'm classified as a bodybuilder or not because the stigma surrounding them is that they're all idiot meatheads who stare at themselves in the mirror all day, anyway.

I just don't see what the issue is with someone wanting to look better. If we applied the logic that anyone who lifts for aesthetics is vain, then that would make overweight people who join a gym to lose fat to look better vein for trying to lose fat and look like the "unrealistic images" that are shoved down our throats by the media...how narcissistic of them

I consider myself a guy who lifts weights..that's it. It started with cardio to lose weight and I then used hand weights while doing treadmill, which led me to the weight bench. I do it to improve leg strength (bad knees) and help lose some body fat. I'd like to someday have arms like I see here but doubt it will happen.

As an aside I get a lot of stress relief from it..and life lessons.

I am generalizing. Which never works. Case in point, Jordan is actually straight but does crossfit :D. Jk, I like crossfit.

I should just direct this conversation to people who lift to either fit in or make themselves look better for others. Bodybuilding is the only form of lifting that I see doing that. There are obvious exceptions. So yes, when a fat person works out to look better for other people I think that is wrong but it isn't necessarily bad either. If they lift because they have came to a realization that they don't want to continue with their current lifestyle...then great. That's a positive image.

Powerlifting and olympic lifting is about the numbers and the form.

 I agree. Folks shouldn't try to pursue goals for anyone but themselves

And I do care about my numbers, too, so I guess that kinda makes me a powerlifter...a powerlifter who wants sick abs and 18" arms, too though lol

    Done.
Here's what I'll do, let's get a contest rolling and I'll post up some prizes?
What's the catch? Do a BB.com store review on said product.

    Thoughts?

PS- Aaron just got a refill on cardio igniter and some other stuff. He seems to enjoy the cardio igniter.

Cardio igniter with the thermogenic properties fuels my sprints after my full weights workout. Love the stuff...and I don't get the shits from it.

As for baby taco and Zach, tl, dr....so not gonna quote. Lol!

There's a side of bodybuilding that is competing....there's another side where guys just lift heavy weights and don't wanna be labeled as a competitor or crossfitter or anything, they lift cuz they enjoy it, its a stress management tool and they enjoy the health benefits.... That's where I am. Fuck the labels and the medals and shit, work hard, look good, be healthy....no labels.
