I've never consistently tracked calories / macros with any success. I'm traveling right now and not in the best position to start but want to as soon as I get back to Cali in a few weeks.

From a little research I came to these numbers but am not experienced enough to know if they're on the right track or ridiculous ha.

I'm 5,7", 165 lbs, want to cut some fat then gain some muscle but end up about the same weight (for now/short term).

I do a 5 day split and burn an average of 2,500 calories a day according to my Fit Bit (obviously varies day to day).

Do these numbers at least look like they're on the right track?

    2,394 calories / day

    131 g Protein

    297 g Carbs

    92 g Fiber (205 Carbs Total)

    85 g Fats (12 g saturated fat)

    3 g Omega 3s

    Protein: 22%

    Carbs: 46%

    Fats: 32%

    Thanks!

Looks pretty decent to me. Do that and if you don't lose about a pound a week, adjust accordingly. If you don't lose any weight, take 200-400 calories away and see what happens the next week (take your calories away from your carbs).

    Same boat, brotha!

My fitness machine. 45yrs old, 6' tall, 176lbs and keeps me in shape along with my profession.

My 13 year old brother has been hitting the gym with me consistently. He's super interested in learning every little detail and refuses to miss a day. Good motivation for me too. Ha

Oh he knows. I've explained legs and compound movements thoroughly. He's only been going for one week, well 5 days of a 5 day split, but it's the first time I've seen him super attentive and interested in something in this way. I'm hoping it really sticks!

Three things you wish you knew when you first started lifting or things you would have done differently......GO.

I started lifting roughly 10 years ago
    1) F*ck everything else and just squat. Worry about everything else later. I didnt take squatting seriously until a few years in because I have always had "tree trunk" legs.
    2) Never stop moving. Running, swimming, cycling, etc. No matter how much you get into lifting weights, always keep up with fun "cardio"
    3) The yoyoing back and forth between bulking and cutting isnt going to get you anywhere. Do the same solid routine for years and ignore all the other bullshit that comes along.
Bonus: I wish I never would have never started taking pre-workout. I started lifting seriously when No-Explode first came out and I dont think I cycled off of that for years. This was while drinking heavily in college.....not a good combo for the liver/adrenal glands.

I made my most progress when I knew nothing about this lifestyle. I lifted heavy weights, ate a shit of carbs from the dining halls, and ran to and from the gym.

I laughed out loud at "shit of carbs"...good post, I'll have to think about it. I've only been lifting serious for about 3 years so I'm sure I have a ton of stuff still to learn and to also forget...
