Hit chest today after a 4 day layoff from the gym. I've been doing 4x4 and then singles up to about 90% of my max. Not adding a lot of size, but it's adding strength really quick. Like I said last week, I hit 315. Today I did 205, 225, 255, 275 x 4, then did 295, 295, 295 x1. The guy spotting me was like "damn man, you're hitting 295 too easily." Then he put 315 on. Our rule is that once the weight is on, you can't take it off until you've at least attempted it. So...a week after finally getting 315, he made me do it again. I did it for 2 singles. I dind't try 320 or 325...but if I hadn't done 295 for 3 singles, I think I might have been able to hit another max this week.

TL;DR - Makin them strength gainz, man...

Boom - nice man. I've been doing the singles (just without the 4x4 before) at 85-90% of my max the past few weeks too, but instead of my actual max I have been using my max goal (My max was 285 but I am using 300 as my goal so 85-90% of that, same with squats and DLs with 365 as my goal. Max was 350 on both). I've been feeling really strong though, but maybe adding in those extra reps would help too. My goal is to hit the 1000lb club before xmas. When I tried maxing before tday I was 15lbs short so I'm hoping I have made enough gainz in the past month or so to hit it when I try maxing again next week.

Nice. I like the 4x4 method. I've done it for a long time. I have started doing a pyramid set every other chest day (10,8,6,4,2,4,6,8,10) at 50, 60, 70, 80, 90% of my max. Trying to work a little on size, strength, and endurance instead of just strength.

My squat max is lagging. But, I still managed to make it to the 1000 lb club a while back.

    I'm at 315 bench, 335 squat (I know, it's embarrassing, I don't need any more ridiculing :( :anonymous: ), and 385 DL. 1035 total.

Goals before my next cut are: 335 bench (was 315...), 350+ squat, 400 DL.

335 on squats is nothing to be ashamed of haha. 90% of my gym can't even half-rep that

    Thanks man.
I feel like if I'm benching 315, I should be squatting closer to 400 by now. Lol. It's coming along, though. I'm basically doing the same 4x4 routine on my leg days. I've been squatting on Mondays, leg press/Super set with narrow squats, lunges, then on Fridays I've been doing heavy front squats and all the auxillary/isolation movements. Gonna make the front squats a secondary movement now, though, and go heavy on back squats again on Fridays. Switch it up a little and see if that will help speed up strength gains.

Just an FYI, Glutamine and Taurine really help with recovery/soreness. And water of course.

Pssssh. Who needs a spotter? That's part of what makes lifting so awesome - the fear of death  Lol.

I'll be honest, the last couple times I've maxed, I wasn't 100% sure the spotter could lift it off of me if I failed. Haha. That made me make sure I got it  Nothin makes you push harder than the fear of death!

Nah...Don't take that advice. all that was just a joke, but I do have some people spot me that I'm not complete sure can keep me from dying. I just don't put the collars on in case I need to dump it and the spotter can't pull it.

Assuming you are actually shooting for your max and not 100lbs over it, then a spotter will only need to relieve 10-20lbs to allow you to finish the rep. Of course if you blow a shoulder you might be fucked but ya, at that point who cares.

Yea, you never know what will happen. I've got some guys that I trust, and I've got some people that I don't really trust that much. For those people, i feel better leaving the collars off...just in case.

Yeah, I wasn't maxing, just doing reps. If I maxed I'd ask someone to spot or go with my friend. Used to have a gym buddy all the time but then out schedules got different and I wanted to do more soo yea

Noice. As long as you're squatting more than you're benching, you're good! My squat is 340 and my bench is 330, so I consider that a win lol. I'd love to have my squat #'s at least 50 lbs higher than my bench though. I've just recently (within the last year) started doing legs to where I'm making good progress on them though. I've started doing one low and one high rep day each week and it has helped with strength and size. On high rep day, I'll do 15-25 reps and on low rep day, I keep it around 4-10 reps. Seems to be working. My shoulders grow more than anything on me, so I always look like I never do legs because my shoulders are so wide and my legs just dangle from my hips :anonymous:

Man, been sick for a few days. I skipped the gym yesterday. Its one of those mucous/stuffed head sicknesses. Decided to go do light chest (heavily disinfect the equipment) and then sit in the sauna for a bit.
