Same. When I first started, I was very intimidated, but I just asked tons of questions and tried to workout with the big guys as much as possible. Now, I'm one of the ones doing the intimidating (in my own head lol). Most kids are scared to be around big dudes and I don't know why because 99% of them will help you in any way possible. But if someone is too scared to step out of their comfort zone and come play with the big kids, they deserve to stay small!

    Pec dec:

I only wear one when going over 315 on squats or deads. I see some idiots who wear a belt when doing biceps. There are also the ones who wear a belt through their entire leg workout, which I think is stupid, too.

That's like when dudes wear gloves in the gym. NO MAN SHOULD EVER WEAR WORKOUT GLOVES....EVER!

I do, however, wear wrist straps when doing dumbbell shrugs over 100 lbs. When I'm working traps, I want to get the most out of my trap workout, so I wear wrist straps so I can hold the weight longer. If I didn't, my grip would give out and my traps would suffer. I have other workouts to work on my grip, so I justify using wrist straps on dumbbell shrugs over 100 lbs.

Lulz. You, sir, just got sig'd

there's these bodybuilder type dudes at my gym that rent out belts from the front desk then wear them for their entire workout, whether they're doing anything core related or not

    lat pulls
    cable flys
    biceps
    shrugs
    cable rows

    it's mildly annoying

You shouldn't. If you need to wear a belt in the gym, you're lifting weights beyond your bodies capacity to lift and should lower the weights and work on strengthening your core.

That was a good article. I like the t nation forums b/c they're like the bodybuilding forums....but for men. I don't participate in them, but I like going on and reading them every now and then if I have a question.

I agree with everything the guy said though...people are dumb to think they don't have enough time to get in the gym. I know new fathers and people who work 12 hr shifts who make it in the gym every week. I'm in law school and I make it work. People are just lazy.

The "Pec Dec" I've always called a "fly" or "butterfly" personally. Am I alone on this or simply ignorant? Anyways I did the 225 squat challenge yesterday. Got 18 before I had to pause. Paused at the top for about a second and kicked out 2 more for 20 total. Solid burn in my legs. Probably could have gotten more physically but the mental pain was my limiting factor. I'll try the bench one next. I'm hopeful to get at least 25. Also got a new 7rm at 345#'s, 5rm at 385#'s, and 2rm on squats at 435#'s. So it was a good squat day.

So my company shuts down from Xmas to New Years so I'm using this week off as an excuse to have a deload week. After the past month I've had trying (and succeeding) to join the 1000# club, I think it will be a good break and I can hit it hard in the new year.

So today, I went to a hot yoga class with my wife. This was my first time going to this particular studio and it happened to also be a cross fit gym so that class was happening when I first walked in. I've never witnessed a cross fit class before but it was everything I had imagined. So much screaming and awful form all around. Nobody was in "shape" unless the shape you are going for is round. I don't get it. One guy was doing this deadlift shrug thing. It was exactly like that stick figure gif someone posted a while back. Maybe they can blame the lack of gains on the stress caused by the instructor yelling the entire time. It was like an unproductive boot camp for the military rejects.
