Does anyone have the science behind the "alcohol kills gains" thing.

But I posted a couple months ago about wanting to gain weight and get stronger, well I just now got back to school and back to the gym and this week I've gone from 172-177.5 pounds body weight and gone up 10lbs on bench and squat and 20lbs on deadlift. Pretty fuckin stoked so far.

The Truth Alcohol Fat Loss and Muscle

This article is great. TLDR version:

    - alcohol once a week isn't gonna kill your gains
    - the effects of alcohol on testosterone are over-hyped
    - eat high protein, low carbs, and low fat on your alcohol day
    - drink low calorie stuff. I drink whiskey and water or Coke Zero. Avoid stuff like margaritas and heavy beers

Sounds like your average leg day to me...leg day isn't supposed to be a pleasurable experience . I try to carb up before all my workouts. Pop tarts, bananas, orange juice, etc.

anybody ever experiment in "insulin spiking" with out actually using the inject type... more along the lines of High/Low Glycemic Index foods.
Pre/post lift session and first thing waking up and just before going to sleep

Well i hit a new PB today. 280 Pound strict over head press. I think i see a very small amount of leg movement but i doubt its enough to cause any concern at this point. I tried 290 but it was clear right away that i was tired and stance was a little to wide.

Wow - that's impressive. I take it by the leg comments this is "standing" OH press?

This thread needs to add to our little profile on the left our height and weight, maybe some PRs but at least some info so we can gauge impressiveness of everyone's gainzz

I've never maxed on OHP. It's not one of the lifts I really care about.

    But that's impressive.

It was part of the 5x5 and I hated doing it. The most I got was 155 5sets of 5. I would usually need to explode the first one up with a knee bend but then could get the rest with my legs locked. It's a pretty uncomfortable lift. I'd rather do Arnold press...or curls

I do it. But I never go over 135 for sets of 10. There's a catch in my shoulder at any weight over about 95 lbs. on the way back down, it catches and pops and it's SUPER uncomfortable. I can do dumbbell press (standing or sitting) without any pain or popping and catching, so I typically do them instead of BB OHP. I've tried different widths and grips and all kinds of stuff. It's just a bad shoulder, is all I can think of.

But, I agree. I usually just sub them out for more bicep curls.

I cant get the damn vid to work.

Im 100% natural and looking to hit 300# for the 100% raw sanction competition in the 100Kg class this year... not sure when but i have to hit at least 315 before id feel comfortable cutting some fat and hitting my weigh in mark
