Bars and protein snacks are junk, nothing more than calorie bombs, they don't support lean muscle mass.

The only good protein snack I found was MusclePharm's Muscle Gel. Its tasty and has little to no sugar or sugar alcohols.

Lolz, wut? "packing lots of protein" only helps if your carbs are lowered to help preserve muscle. Too much of any will result in an unwanted fat gain.

The tools you're carrying isn't as calorie spending as you may think.

As for the metabolism, I have a feeling the diet is out of whack

I don't mean to sound like an asshole, but maybe it will help... Sounds like you have no problem for coming up with excuses to not make any progress "don't want to bench because...." "Don't need to squat because..." etc, you aren't doing anything to better yourself by saying that. Number one, if you want to get your metabolism in check and lose that weight, you need to get your nutrition straight, 5-6 meals a day in the 500 calorie range, 40% protein 40% carbs 20% fat, and when we talk about carbs and fat we don't mean hamburger buns, we are talking oatmeal, sweet potatoes, whole grain, these are good quality carbs and support muscle growth, same goes for fats, you need quality fats, avocado is a wonderful fat, as well as olive oil. So do yourself a favor, forget everything you have convinced yourself that makes you think you don't need to make a change, eat right and get into the gym for a 6 day FULL body routine, then, you will start to make strides to better yourself.
