That's why I was doing a quad specific day (primarily squats) and then a ham specific day.

I'm trying to do legs right now but I almost threw up on my 4th set of squats and had to go walk around the parking lot. I'm doing leg extensions now but I still feel it sitting in my throat ready to go at any moment

Yeah, each leg day begins with either a 15-20 mins squat or dl session. I prefer squats over deads. I like to try to get 2 leg days in so I can do both.

Squats and deadlifts have their separate days for me, but for accessory work I usually do Romanian deadlifts on days that I squat and front squats on days that I deadlift (just to make sure I am hitting my legs well on both days).

When I get through this tooth nonsense and can get back on track with my gainz I am going to switch it up a bit to try and do 3 leg days a week. I'm planning on doing a modified 5x5 program. I haven't figured it out exactly yet but I know I am going to do squats 5x5 at least 2 times a week and deads 5x5 (the original 5x5 program you only do 1x5, which is dumb) 1-2 times as well. I may rotate it. Like week A would be MF squats W deads and week B would be MF deads W squats :notsure:

This weekend all gainz will be lost. It's homecoming and my 21st birthday. I may need prayers if I'm going to make it out alive

I am trying to think of how to articulate this...the idea behind the 1x5 is that deads are so taxing on your CNS that after a certain number of heavy reps, you're really just spinning your wheels. If you're using the correct weight (heavy) to achieve maximal gainz at 5 reps, then you shouldn't be able to do that weight for 5 sets of 5 reps without taking extremely long breaks in between sets. If you are able to do the 5 sets of 5 reps, and only the last two sets are difficult, then you've wasted the first 3 sets. The goal of 5x5 is to make linear progress in strength gains, and your progress will be slowed if you're wasting sets with insignificant (non-taxing) weight.

All that being said...I never did 1x5. I did (and still do), as my working sets, 2x5 alternating my switch grip and wearing a belt, and then drop the weight by 25%, lose the belt, and use a double overhand grip for a set of 8. Anything after that and I am completely useless.

And, obviously, do whatever the fuck you want. But when you start to change up time tested programs that are designed for a specific purpose, you may not achieve that purpose as well as you could have.

I did 5x5 probably for 6 weeks before I got tired of the repetition but I just never liked the deads portion. Week A was MF with squats5x5 and deads1x5, W squats5x5 and barbell rows 5x5 and then Week B was MF squats5x5 and barbell rows 5x5, W squats5x5 and deads 1x5. So in week B I would literally only do 1 set of deads that entire week. That just didn't seem beneficial to me. I made really good gainz through that program but the deads were the least affected. Obviously the weight I can do 1x5 at would be more than the weight I can do 5x5 at but I would just think doing them on their own day separate from squats at more repetitions would be better for gainz than 1 measly set when I am already spent from the heavy squats...

I think the simplicity of the 5x5 program is lost or ineffective on more advanced lifters. That's why I like 5/3/1 now. Instead of the set 1 set of 5, you have 1 working set of AMRAP, and then accessory work. But, for you all that like to chase the pump, it's not going to be as satisfying for you.

There is a shit ton of leftover Halloween candy floating around my office. This is not good...
