Traps are the sign of strength. You don't see any strong dudes that don't have traps

99% of trap development will come from other exercises...
Be that guy with white sunglasses and a Tapout sleeveless shirt doing shrugs though.

Ya'll are crazy. Shrugs are the ONLY exercise you should be doing for traps.

    Source? My traps

Let's see your traps. Just because you've got some weird vendetta out against people that shrug doesn't mean they're not an effective workout. For instance, here are two of the most decorated bodybuilders in history doing that 'bro' workout. The fact that (probably) every professional bodybuilder does shrugs should tell you it's a mass-builder because the goal of a bodybuilder is to be jacked and they're not going to waste their time doing useless exercises. To stop the argument I can see coming that bodybuilders are on steroids, so traps are going to grow anyway, I'm going to say that, yes, that's true....but bodybuilders are creatures of efficiency and they're going to do the workouts that yield the greatest results, which includes shrugs.

Also, here are some links from professionals for the best trap exercises (hint: they all include the shrug)

    http://www.mensfitness.com/training/build-muscle/15-exercises-develop-best-traps-gym

EDIT: I'm not saying shrugs are the ONLY exercise to do for big traps, but they're a damn good one (if not the best).

I just don't understand the logic that how a slow, controlled isolated movement wouldn't be a good workout. Compound lifts aren't the only mass-building exercises; if they were, bodybuilders would only have to squat, deadlift, and do pullups because apparently curls, extensions, and shrugs are useless wastes of time only people who spike their hair and tan do, amiryte?

I've been doing slow controlled isolated training for years.. It definitely works at targeting and developing muscles, that otherwise would't be, there's no doubt about it..
Just the smallest tweaks on a movement can activate a whole other cluster of muscle groups...

Kind of a good point in relation to the shoulder topic that was brought up a while back, concerning range of motion.. And me stating how doing as many ranges of motion (and warming up well) is a key to avoiding shoulder injury, by developing strength in the entire muscle group and full ROM.

That's how you can get a lot of those little muscles that are hidden most of the time to pop.. And people are like, how he does that?

I don't do shrugs. They're for puzys. I have well developed traps from deadlifts, CJs and snatches. I have attached a pic for reference.

Agreed. When doing shoulders, I always try to do an exercise that emphases the front, back, top, etc. part of the shoulder. Same with triceps: I try to do an overhead, a pushdown, and an extension movement.

Y'all jelly of 140 lb. Zach.

My weird vendetta is that I was doing the muscle and fitness workouts you are doing now, 20 years ago..you are right about next topic: steroids. One of the 1st muscle groups to respond are traps..genetically most people can't obtain cannon ball shoulders and Arnold traps. We all try!! I did shrugs for 21 years...as I'm about to hit 39 years old I want to get in get out with the most results. Standing concentration curls and 6 movements for every muscle group isn't where it's at..

I guess we'll just have to agree to disagree because I think compound movements + isolation movements yields the best results.

Just because it doesn't work for you doesn't mean it's not good for others.
