Oh I know. Audi is on the top of my list of “shit I’ll never own” right next to range rovers. Depreciation is insane and it’s so expensive to keep them up. Overall, clean cars though.

Well first let’s begin with a welcome to the thread. If you want to learn actual weight lifting tips and get advice on how to make gains you’ve come to the wrong place. If you want to talk shit well you may just have a good time. As for @SLO/TACO he is the resident troll but if you show him you can lift he will lighten up on you. Post a nood or a video of a lift or something...

As for my argument against crossfit. It is simple, valid, and undeniable.

A friend was into crossfit but as per usual injured himself and had a hernia. Went to the doctor and they discovered he had colon cancer. Some may say crossfit saved his life. No. Crossfit gave him ass cancer.

In response to the above -

Yes, I enjoy lifting more than CrossFit. But the other elements of CrossFit improve other elements of athleticism besides strength and power.

Injuries - I’ve had them. Low back pain, shoulder injuries, wrist arthritis, etc etc. All training regimes have their patterns of injury.

If a common ground here is dead lift, squat, and Oly lifts then there is plenty to discuss.

    SBD - powerlifting ?
I’ve dabbled. Yokes and stones are fun. As we age, the heavy stuff can get costly from an injury standpoint.

Yikes and stones would be strongman, not powerlifting. Powerlifting is SBD - squat, bench, deadlift

Okay - thanks for the clarification. So in a Strongman completion, for example, squat and deadlift are not part of the event ?

The whole crossfit craze with the sticker on the truck/car is just funny.. definitely some good somewhere in there. Eating right and incorporating some sort of exercise is good!
@Newlife loves to use the shaker weights with his "coaches" multiple times a week

Basicially my whole leg day is done in just socks, till I finish up in isolation machines like leg curls then I’ll put shoes back on lol. This is the only time I do this. I don’t stroll the gym in just socks on the reg.

I know we had a brief discussion/rant on this a bit ago. I don’t wanna be THAT guy

We've all had injuries, even not doing crossfit. Don't let them get to ya.

Crossfit gets a bad rap because of all the stupid millennials doing dumb ass shit like benching while on a leg press machine. It has a function like all types of activity, but generally the most hated, especially here.

I think the biggest issues people have with Crossfit are that a lot of the teachers or whatever they're called don't know what they're talking about and their actions (or inaction) results in people getting badly hurt. A lot of teachers stress speed over everything or teach people to lift with bad form and it sends someone to snap city. These same teachers peddle some bullshit paleo diet and act like it's the be-all end-all for dieting and if you're not eating paleo, you're gonna die of heart disease.

Also, it can be argued that certain movements in Crossfit shouldn't be done with heavy weight or at high speed because the likelihood for injury increases. A good example is the kipping pullup. Shoulder tears are some of the most common in weightlifting and fast movements that rotate the shoulders in multiple different angles at one time with the combination of a heavy load on them is more likely to result in injury opposed to a slow, controlled movement. I personally know 2 people who've had to have shoulder surgeries due to Crossfit.

From a muscle-building perspective, doing Crossfit is like bypassing the interstate and trying to take backroads from Georgia to California. It's been proven time and time again that the best and most efficient way to build muscle is hypertrophy training. Anything else is an inefficient use of your time. Yes, I know Josh Bridges and Rich Froning are both huge and also do Crossfit, but they're the severe outliers. If you pool a group of 100 Crossfitters and a group of 100 powerlifters, I'd bet my left nut the powerlifters have more mass. But, Crossfit isn't marketed to turn you into Ronnie Coleman and that's okay.

I think the cult-like atmosphere turns a lot of people off. Every single Crossfitter I know thinks that Crossfit is some kind of revolutionary thing that if you're not doing, you're inferior.

    Lastly, it's expensive as fuq.

TL;DR: if your goal is to get conditioned, have fun doing Crossfit, but you're not going to look like you work out.

My wife's uncle owns a garage and he said that "luxury cars" are always the worst to work on. He mentioned Range Rover and Mercedes specifically. My boss owns 2 Mercedes' and I drive them quite a bit and they're junk...just too much shit to go wrong on them and the design is so convoluted that you've got to go to a dealership to get it fixed. Like in one Mercedes, the battery is in the trunk, so if it dies you've got to take apart the backseat to find a button to release the trunk...stupid shit like that.

Depreciation in anything but Toyotas is pretty scary. A friend bought a 2011 Dodge 1500 new and sold it last year for the same price I sold my 2003.

I know and I have no excuse :pout:...everyone talks shit on Crocs rightfully so because they're super ugly, but they're super comfy for wearing around the house...I didn't plan on going to the gym that day and I was already out and about, so I just said fuck it and went anyway. It's my own fault for wearing Crocs away from the house...I'm yours to ridicule.

Youre right, I too hate the thought of having footwear with any sort of support or shape that even remotely resembles the shape of a foot. generic rubber ovals with a half ass flippy heel strap should do the trick every time! you now have to post a video doing squat max, or close to it, with those horrendous excuses for footwear.

Ugh, the thought of owning crocs sends shivers down my spine, let alone walking around in public with them, or even being near a display rack that sells them.

side note, im kind of surprised how often i actually have to explain and justify why spend "so much time" going to the gym and meal prepping and the sort. Like, i head all the ranges of reasons why people hate it. When do you actually need that extra strength? Why aren't you happy the way you are without working out? Id rather go enjoy the out doors, not a stuffy gym! Are you just trying to impress people? Will you ever have a point you will be happy and stop? and the list goes on and on!

Like, I go during the work week at night or early in the am when its dark, nobody is doing out door shit when its 7pm and 10 degrees during the week. The extra time I spend at the gym and cooking is off set by the fact i dont ever watch tv or movies or browse social media, or wasting money at a bar. Is is so bad I want to be better than average? That I want to actually be proud and look good with a shirt off? Not a pencil neck? Will I be happy and stop? Ya, when I look like a god damn kalvin Klein model. And I forgot to just relate it to all the other sports I do, it sure is easier to lug a bunch of climbing gear up a mountain with a strong back and shoulders. And so many excuses why being in a gym is bad. They make it sound like a sealed box with no windows.

Peoples aversion to being in a gym, and confusion to the effort put into being in "above average shape" is so odd.
