The smart ass in me figured you were thinking that just joining would help :D

What I found works for me was:
    1. Eat healthy ( E.G. pick the healthy foods, no need to go Keto or anything like that unless you want to)
    2. Reduce portion size
    3. Snack regularly (healthy snack like carrots of course)
    4. Work out in a serious manner, but don’t push yourself to injury, 30 minutes of “good” workout is better than 1 hour of fucking around in the gym “working out”
    5. Allow yourself a cheat meal once a week
    6. Hydrate, cut sweet tea (my kryptonite) (or other sugar drinks) down to one glass per day or less, I almost never drink soda.

    Absolutely not.

Thats a good way to ruin progress.

You will never have a healthy relationship with food if you view certain foods as “cheating”.

A double cheeseburger with Mac and cheese, peanut butter, and fries is not an “every day” meal, but it’s not also a meal I’m willing to give up, therefore it becomes a cheat meal.

    No problem
I lost ~60 lbs following that.

Another thing I want to discuss is SALT. Salt is NOT bad for you if you're eating clean as long as you don't have any pre-existing issues with hypertension. Especially with summer approaching, you can't properly hydrate without adequate salt. If you're drinking tons of water and pissing every 30 minutes that is BAD and you aren't hydrated. Salt is a key electrolyte and responsible for so many processes in the body -including performance in the gym. It's even more essential the lower your carbohydrate intake is.

I take in between 4-6g (4000-6000mg) of sodium daily from Pink Sea Salt. Your needs may vary, but the point is not be scared of salt.

Disclaimer: MASSIVE difference between eating clean and adding salt back into your meals, vs eating shitty processed foods laden with sugar, MSG, table salt, etc. One is fantastic for your health, the other will ruin it..

You should never tell yourself certain foods (unless they cause you physical illness) are foods that are “never” ok to eat. Therefore you need to set up your diet to allow those foods you enjoy in moderation.
Its not cheating when it’s allowed.

I will also say weekly “cheat meals” need to be weighed along with your goals. A meal like you listed above can very easily negate over a weeks worth of caloric deficit. Which basically means you work hard 5 days a week to lose weight to literally make it meaningless in one meal.

1lb of weight loss is 3500 calories. So if your cheat meal put you in excess of that... you’ll spin your wheels on weight loss. Or you’ll get into a situation where you need to starve yourself throughout the week. This leads to yo yo dieting which is disadventageous for healthy weight loss.

Once a week is a bit too frequently to throw your commitment out the window in order to be successful.

You will always be miserable if you live your life caring about what other people think about you.

What are your weight loss/fitness goals?

I agree with Packcon. A cheat meal can for sure trash your progress. Being 5’6 and 220, it won’t be hard to lose decent amounts of weight with small changes tho. It’s when you get 5’6 and 170lbs that the once a week cheat meal will start showing its face.

I drink tons of water and piss all the time too. Never knew it’s a salt issue but makes sense since I don’t ever use salt or eat salty food

All depends on how deep into a diet and how lean you are. My Sunday cheat meals are fucking epic in proportion, but i'm also alot leaner and farther in my diet - so all it does is fill me out and spike my metabolism and thyroid function. When i'm first coming into a diet from winter/offseason with plenty of eating, I don't go nuts and its very controlled or else I won't be able to get the ball rolling and improve my insulin sensitivity.

If you're just starting a diet and not in greatest shape, cheat meals need MAJOR controlling proportion wise, no doubt!

Also. Food is like a drug. That’s a fact. You don’t see people getting off meth doing little hits to help get clean lol. A cheat meal can snowball if you don’t have control established.

Tbh if you tell us your daily diet, we could help a bunch. There’s lots of little ways to start a diet so you don’t get overwhelmed and jump straight into chicken and greens every day lol

Amen! No need whatsoever for a diet to be nuts off the bat. I mean, lets be honest, most people these days eat/drink so much sugary shit that if they just dropped soda, sweets, etc they'd make progress.

Consistency though cannot be stressed enough.

That’s what’s funny! One person can just cut out soda while still eating pretty bad and lose weight.

Then others (like some of us) will gain weight just for straying off the diet a few times.

    Crazy.
