Know how I know insurance is a fucking scam?

My ER bill for being uninsured (they didn’t take my info at the time) came to $928.20.

My new cost of going through insurance is $1,133.30.

i have to pay MORE being insured than if I didn’t have insurance.

Goddamn, what insurance you got? Don't get me wrong, higher cost sharing is not a surprise to me in general but IDK why that happened.

Anthem Blue Cross/Shield. I’ll be calling them tomorrow and saying ya I’m not paying that. There’s no reason I should be paying more than an uninsured person. I should be paying less!

Short version is you might have a high deductible plan, which sadly are becoming the norm.

I've been in the field almost 20 years now and while not Anthem I do work for BCBS

    Hi guys,
I recently started going to the gym, been going for I wanna say 8 weeks now, I do an upper/lower split 4 days a week and drink a whey protein shake with only about 20g on the days i workout after i workout, overall I've been trying to eat bigger meals, more protein, and overall healthier. I use the app life sum to track calories, I know i don't necessarily have to track calories to gain weight/muscle but I feel like it reminds me to eat when i don't hit the limit. Here is my program, I'm thinking of maybe switching it up since I've been going for 2 months now (and results are not great, but ill be patient)

They give discounts to private payers that yes, sometimes can be cheaper than insurance negotiated rates for services.

I would call the ER billing and ask why the two bills were different. We are in Nov, if you are pretty sure you have no more care and have not hit your deductible, ask them for the private discounted rate. Private pay does not go towards your deductible so make that decision based on how much care you have had or need the remainder of the year.

Its cheaper for me to go to my PT with cash. I pay $80 cash or $137 with insurance per session.

Hit the gym for 30 minutes last night with my sister, she walked on the treadmill while I warmed up .25 miles on the treadmill and then hit the machine circuit and abdominal crunch and back extension machines.
The AB crunch machine burns so good.

No pic/vid for this one, but it was pretty good so I'll do my best to describe it. It was the Monday before my meet, and I was working up to my openers. I had one more squat to go. A few important notes to consider...

*my gym isn't big. You're always close enough to everybody to see what's going on.

    *there are 4 squat stations

*there is 355lbs loaded on my bar (at the only 1 of 4 squat racks being used).

    * the subject of this story and myself are the only two people there.

I was sitting on a bench about five feet away from my rack with my earbuds in just chilling and getting ready for my last squat. I noticed this dude dragging a movable incline bench toward me, and then pull it into my rack (1 of 4, mind you) and then walk away for a minute. I thought maybe he'd be back to move it on to wherever he was going with it so I just sat there. A few seconds later he came back, positioned the bench under the barbell, made eye contact with me, and then proceeded to unload my bar. WTF? I was sort of dumbfounded. He already had the change plates and the first 45 off when I said "Mind if I finish my squat first?"

He looked at me with utter surprise, apologized, and proceeded to reload my weight. Haha. He was completely oblivious. Then, instead of moving to one of the other three racks, he stood there waiting for me to finish my squat.

I stopped cutting last week. I’ll be maintaining my weight for a while. Here’s me at 165lbs after a push workout this morning.

youre doing the right thing. Call and negotiate. The ins companies want their money as do the providers, but sometimes (not always) the cost is inflated to see what you will pay, you can also normally negotiate installments if you need to. I was told to negotiate and luckily have never had an issue big enough that I felt I needed to, but I should if i do. Also HDHP arent all bad. its about your risk and likelihood of usage and how much $$ you have stocked away for healthcare costs. Best part of a HDHP is a HSA, but thats a topic for another thread I think...

I did my 5x5 yesterday. Really focused on setup, form, and execution. Overall I felt smoother, even if the weight was tough to get through all 25 reps (squats especially here). I really worked for consistency and proper form. I am going to keep this up. I like the way I feel.
