This is why I don't fully believe that CICO model is 100% accurate. The body is strange, and the mind is even more intricate. We will never fully understand... We can only take what we know and do our best to apply it to our situation.

This. I don’t think I’ve had a time where I’ve tracked my nutrition meticulously where the math works out perfectly.
Body does what it does and it can vary one day to the next.

I can only speak from my experience. MOST of the time CICO is very accurate for me. I had been dealing with some sciatica for a couple weeks so my training was off. The increase in cals coincided with my training getting back to normal. So, while my cals in increased, I imagine my cals out also did due to the higher training intensity.

    But yea... bodies are weird.

When you guys are cutting, do you keep the same macro profile and just decrease calories, or do you change your macros too?

Thanks. I need to change my picture, traded that truck in about a year and a half ago and have an ‘18 4runner now.

The white wheels were my favorite part of the truck though. I loved them

Gotta change it up. I bulk and maintain with plenty of carbs but I cut with hardly any

Yeah, that makes sense. So you do like 20% c, 50% p, 30% f or something like that?

    I don’t do %

I keep carbs under 150 when cutting and fats around 50. The rest protein. Double everything for bulking, give or take. I also carb time though, out of my 150 I’ve already eaten about 130 by 10am (preworkout, post workout, and breakfast). Then I don’t eat anymore until right before I go to bed.

There’s no magical equation and what works for may or may not work for you. I’ve been cutting since late July and it probably took well into October before I finally got my numbers right. It’s trial and error and then you have to adjust as progress comes.

So I'm thinking about trying to stay around this 310lb mark instead of trying for like 330lb.

I was wayyyyyy faster/mobile than these other guys yet was still able to compete strength wise. I like being able to be the "small" guy in the HW class lol

Did you hear the recent JRE with Rob Kearney? He talked a lot about being a smaller guy competing in Strong Man and the advantages and disadvantages that brings.

Well I'm not "smaller", at least not height wise which would give the main advantages lol I was 2-3in taller than everyone there so all the picks from the ground sucked more, but with that being said I was more athletic and faster so I could move once I got the weight up to my level.

Kearny is a very small guy for strongman, like 5'10"-5'11" max.

If I can stay around 310lb but recomp my body mass and be leaner I think I can stay pretty competitive with the fat guys

Edit: shit he is only 5'9"! I was off

My 2020 goal is that I’m done using that word.
I pretty much maintain the same diet regardless of body comp goals. I manipulate carbs and feeding window for performance but not for composition.

I just took a few weeks off of doing squats due to anterior hip pain in my right hip. This made me research squat form issues and I think it was caused by knee cave and knee slide. Going back through some form videos it makes more sense now the relationship between foot and femur angle. I didn’t pay enough attention to these items when initially learning the lift. I’ve been doing StrongLifts since October.

I am doing a significant deload and working my way back up focusing on form. I am hoping to get some critiques - this is my 5th set of 5, I see that I am still getting knee slide as I start coming up out of the bottom. I was focusing on knee cave and keeping a wide stance. I am curious if you guys see anything else?

are you still having the hip pain? That’s what got me under the knife. It all started with a squat :bananadead:

Yeah, I am going off of a section in Mark Rippetoe's Starting Strength book that suggests that knee slide can cause tendinitis in this location, and hoping I can work through it by getting my form correct. Most of the reps I did today felt totally fine, some felt painful. I want to get over this hurdle because I want to keep squatting...
