Eat big, lift big, be big. In my senior year I couldn't bench 115lbs and I weighed 109, I've consistently been over 150 for a while now and can deadlift 295 for sets of ten. Recently I stopped taking supps randomly and my workouts haven't changed, just say'n!

What's wrong with a DB kickback? I've done them and I can feel the weight and movement working....I probably do a lot of movements that u wonder about..:but they work.
I follow John Meadows workouts...guy is king of training.
YouTube or google him if you want to know more about him.

Different goals that's all! YouTube "Ross Enamait" for inspiring work capacity and intesity! Kick backs will not increase your athletic performance the way a compound movement will (dips or muscle ups).

I've done kick backs before and made my triceps look like horse shoes but will not help me chase someone down for 1/4 mile at full speed, climb walls and then fight them for 15min...... or run up 15 flights of stairs with 75lbs or gear to fight a fire. These are of course hypothetical situations but still a requirement for plenty of brave men and women!

No..endurance will help do that, IMO...dropsets, suspersets, HIIT, and just good old LISS cardio work great for that.

Are the BCAA's in the powder form more effective than the ones in pill form? After looking at the GNC site, there are obviously all kinds of different brands and so forth and I noticed some are pills and others are a powder. Seems like the pills would be more convenient to take, but maybe not?

Powder is absorbed more efficiently and quicker than pills...on the bright side, if you're traveling or on the go, there are some time released BCAA's (Amino Phase) that will help too.

Any brands in particular as far as the time released BCAA's that you would recommend?

Unless you are training for competition or some kind of rehabilitation, compound exercises squash the need for almost all isolation exercises - regardless of workout goals. Even for fat loss and toning, the big compounds listed above are king for expediting results. Dumbbell kickbacks target very few muscles. If I had 3 hours+ / day for the gym I would probably do a lot more isolated. Realistically I have about an hour so I want to get the most out of every workout. The more muscles you smash and the harder you work the more natural testosterone and growth hormone your body secretes making you burn fat and grow muscle.

Still don't see how DB kickbacks are a waste of time...I compete and still occasionally throw them in on/off season (not that it would make a difference)

I disagree with the fact that you can't work in isolation exercises in an hour's workout. That's where GVT comes into play. 10x10, one minute rest. One compound exercise, one isolation exercise.

    Problem? I'd say no.

Im not saying you can't..I'm just saying for absolute maximum damage you can do to your body overall. Put the most amount of load/work on it.

Instead of triceps push backs do weighted dips. I've never gotten good gains or results doing things like delt raises, calf raises etc etc

I have better results doing isolation calf exercises then any other leg or compound exercise....its just how my calves work.

Do them first on leg day. And then again on a different day about 3 days later.
