What is the purpose of a DL bar?

Is it because the whip allows the bar to carry more weight or does the whip provide a different training effect?

more whip= higher starting position. Also they’re thinner so easier to grip.

Might be the strongest my deadlift has ever felt. Coach basically reset my form completely and we've been slowly building off a lower training max then before. I pulled 90% for a 3x3 today and it felt like nothing. I think 700lbs+ by the January comp is gonna be pretty comfortable.

What has been the biggest change with form?

Biggest change has been stance/feet. I used to be very wide and tried to deadlift like I was 400lbs. Now my stance is closer and my feet are pointed more outward.
    photocollage_2020101619823678~2.jpg

Other big change is my head position. Before I would stare basically straight down and not raise my head till almost the top of the lift. Now I start looking more up and forward.

I also "root" my feet into the ground and imagine forcing my heels in and my toes apart throughout the lift to get more quad activation. To root imagine you're trying to pick up a piece of paper off the floor with your toes. Really flex your toes into the ground.

Another thing he taught me is to flex my triceps and turn my elbows inward as hard as I can. That activates lats/triceps/upper back more and keeps my upper back nice and tight.

My old pull used basically all hamstrings and lower back.... Now he has me using every muscle available.

Nice.. going to revisit my DL technique once I start lifting from the floor again in a few weeks.

Is your coach in person or do you do all of this via video?

Both. He taught me in person and we meet up once a month or so. He does weekly video reviews as well.

This is under rated advice. Gonna give it a shot tomorrow.

I gotta find a way to make my lower back relax or not use it. It never hurts but it gets tight. Idk if it’s a stretching thing but even yesterday I did some light kettlebeg swings to work on hamstrings and potential toss events. I used stupid light weight and tried the whole “push with your hips and glutes” thing today... bam. Lower back is tight.

You probably have poor thoracic mobility and are loading/levering your lower back instead of glutes/hams and lats. Ask me how I know that......

Flex your glutes hard on everything. Make that your main cue.

In addition to what @Travish325 said you said you notice it when you run too.
So I second it could be a glute issue and perhaps a little core.

I’m working on the glutes thing. Felt funny doing the kettlebells like I was damn near humping the shit  but yea I’d like to address and fix the issue if possible.

It doesn’t happen from running. It’s just if I run after a workout or while it’s tight, it gets worse.

If it’s not tight before a run then it never starts to tighten up.

I am having one of those days where its just a one man pitty party.

Did an easy 8 miler on the trails this morning and had a good first couple miles then it just turned south and by the end I was like “all those brahs on TacomaWorld are right, running fucking sucks and I’m a moron for ever agreeing to do an ultra”.

I just feel like shit. My husband stayed home in bed and didn’t run with me. He’s in a shitty mood too.

Realized we got the flu shot yesterday. Just FYI that stuff may make you feel off. Like a 4 year old that needs a nap.

I’m enjoying a nice pumpkin ale right now and thats rejuvinating me. Maybe tomorrow I’ll want to be a runner again, but today... fuck running.

I told my husband I wanted to quit but I can’t. He asked why and I said because I paid for a 50M custom medal and hoodie and I can’t wear it and be a poser

Beer is going to be part of my fueling for the 50M. At some point I WGAF how much pain I’m in. :)

Mouser block sucks and I have no idea how to lift it.

BUT. Using saturdays as a “comp prep day” and going to go through the events as best as I can on em but just around 65-75% of the weight.

so 175 on the mouser block was sketchy but got it done.

Then did 100’ with 450lbs on the trap bar to simulate frame carry. Gotta work on my balance on that one. Keeping the weight from shifting sucks.

STONES... stones are a nightmare and where I need the most work. Definitely gonna have to buy a grip shirt and stone sleeves or tacky

Car deadlift is gonna be easy. Weight is moving stupid good on that one. Felt light tonight so cracked 800lbs on it for one which was awesome.
