Bro there are only about 29 people worldwide that worry about competitive CrossFit.... Everyone else talking about that is just silly.

 

there is tons of competitive CrossFit. You are talking pro croasfit. Same way there are tons of competitive powerlifter, bodybuilder, strongman, etc without being pro

 

But are they actually competitive? Or just doing the CrossFit open events and looking at their score compared to the rest of the gym?

 

I'm not sure if he competes, I have a relative who is very into CrossFit. Think he teaches it as well. He's always been into fitness, but he is also a police officer so cardio and agility is important for his career.

 

Basically CrossFit.

 

Yes there are plenty of competitive athletes. We do local and regional completions. Same as literally every other fitness sport (bodybuilding, powerlifting, Oly, etc)

But what’s your mile time.

jk I can move an atlas stone but I’m sure you’d smoke me. Croasfit competent at everything but master nothing.

So here's the thing though.... You never really compete because CrossFit has its chosen few..


You never really get stronger, you just get better at CrossFit.


You will never get to the top because you aren't the chosen few (who are allowed to use allllllll the gear/roids) because you don't further the CrossFit brand. Crossfit highlights select roided out athletes, shows them off, doesn't test them, and says "you too can look/be like this if you spend $150+ a month for a membership"


It's a brand... Not fitness. It's the Abercrombie of weight lifting. You pay way too much to wear CrossFit apparel and flaunt your "fitness" so others join the cult and never do anything but spend money and talk about "how they are superior cause they do CrossFit"

Prove me wrong.

I'm a Dave Ramsey cult member... *cough* I mean listener. He has a new personality Dr. John Delony, a psychologist who's now got his own youtube channel and podcast.

Recently he went off on some epic rant about CrossFit people. The words cult and toxic masculinity were thrown around. Was pretty funny.


I would really like to try CrossFit at one point. I think it would be a fun new challenge. I just don't like the monthly membership costs.

 

The cost at most places is unjustified, happy to admit that. But I’ve found most normal gyms are catching on. They have “functional fitness” spaces. There is so much free programming online now you don’t need to go to a “class”. Just find a normally priced gym with the space and get after it.

as someone who worked as a trainer (normal gyms not crossfit) for 8 years CrossFit has done a huge service to the fitness industry. You are right it is a brand but it has put more hands on a barbell than all of the other fitness sports. For that reason alone it’s hugely important to the industry as a whole



When you talk about the select few at the top and they are all on roofs how is what you are saying different than any other fitness sport. As a competitive crossfitter I don’t expect to get to the top. Competitive is different than professional. I have a buddy in law school who is a competitive bodybuilder. He no more expects to win Mr Olympia than I expect to win the Games. All the same we both compete at the local level in our respective fitness sports. I have a ton of respect for what he does to his body as a bodybuilder and vice versa


I disagree strongly about not getting stronger just better at CrossFit. If that is the case for people they just have bad programming, same could be said about other fitness sports. You can periodize CrossFit the same as every other lifting sport. There are just more skills to learn on top of shear strength so it often is slower growth in any one dimension.


I would also say CrossFit does make you a more functional athletes all around. So I am also a climber/mountaineer. When I was a powerlifter I had a tough time also enjoying being a climber as a hobby. The one sport actively limits the other. This is far less true of CrossFit in fact being proficient at gymnastics helps climbing.



PS I don’t spent any money on a membership I have a garage gym so nah

 

I wish I had better gyms in my area (which is just outside a major metropolitan area so it's not like I live in Bumfuk Egypt). I see photos people post on here and they gym spaces they have and I'm jelly.

I got to La Fitness (that's what I call it) and that's obviously a semi-joke in terms of a powerlifting gym. There are 5 benches, 1 squat rack, and 2 racks made more for OHP.

Before COVID the gym was packed enough when I went in that I'm always waiting for a rack. Luckily right now I'm rarely waiting to use something so now it's not a major deal, but when the mass agoraphobia stops I may have an issue again.

Most gyms around me different from where I am are private and require that you pay for training. It's not an open gym. I honestly have been unable to find a local gym that is anything like what it seems other people have access to. And I only look in my local area because I am unwilling to drive farther than I am now for a gym. Because travel time is reduced training time and given the fact that some parts of the year I train 25 hours a week, it's a big deal to add 15 minutes one way in travel time to train.

Plus I'm afraid to switch gyms right now. Knowing my luck I'll go someplace else and they'll go bankrupt and now I've got to pay hundreds to re join my current gym.

Struggle is real.

Wait, it is the distal! You're telling me I don't need this thing?! My issue was the tendon being shitty was causing a bunch of other pain in my elbow. I can't imagine that getting better if it's completely gone!

 

I messed up, ORIGIN is what you don't need. Distal you do need. The attachment at the top of the shoulder isn't needed (one of them is, the other isn't). One of them at the top is the one they cut in baseball pitchers since almost all of them tear it anyways.

If it was the opposite side you could just do something to cause it to snap and you'd be all fine. I mean... you'd never be able to be a bodybuilder because of an odd looking bicep, but if that was never your goal not much of a loss.

 

Easy deload deadlifts this afternoon.

I get this weekend for a slight birthday celebration then Monday starts buckle down time for the January show prep. Not sure what I'm looking to be at weight wise. I am gonna see what these SARMs and diet do and not concern myself with adding pounds.

 

Can we also banish @PackCon and his nonsense running to the 4Runner forum?

 

Just take your crossfit talk out of here. You’re not going to convince anyone in here the crossfit is good, except maybe @PackCon but that’s because he’s weird and enjoys running. Just look at @Travish325 below, you’re not going to win an argument here.

 

Nah @PackCon is ok...I see running as a mental illness and therefore, banning him would be prejudicial. Keeping him around and reading his posts on shoes makes me feel virtuous.
