Lmao I was pretty drunk when I wrote that response but yeah I'm not gonna argue anymore. If someone likes it that's cool and all but it's a straight up cult and makes money by recruiting people into the cult on the basis of "it's superior fitness cause look how we can do it all".... You can do olympic lifting, handstands, rope climbs, burpees, and whatever else without ever signing onto the brand or following CrossFit at all. But the fact is people believe they NEED to be a part of it, and talk about how they are a part of CrossFit. It's a fad. That is the problem.

CrossFitters are faithful to a BRAND and a CORPORATION not fitness. Pay money to go to an officially licensed gym. Pay money to wear officially licensed shoes and shirts. Pay money for officially licensed "functional movement coaching certs".... for officially licensed terrible programming that is basically just a bunch of lifts/movements someone mixed up, pulled from a bag, threw on the table, and said "here's this week's custom programming"

See the issue here? I won't lie, it's a brilliant marketing strategy.

I'll never say strongman is best, or powerlifting is superior or anything. I will say what's best is what works for you. However, if what works for you is needing to be involved with a specific brand that has simply rebranded basic lifting and gymnastics techniques into their own officially licensed poor quality movements then yeah.... If you long for that involvement and justify how CrossFit as a corporation works, you got bigger issues than worrying about being in shape.

    Ok I'm done lol

The functional fitness argument is such cocksuckery.
No shit being active is going to improve quality of life, aerobic exercise of any kind is going to benefit ones mountain climbing endeavors, “crossfit” doesn’t have shit to do with being functional.
Anybody self righteously claiming the whole, my sport is more functional thing either feels that somehow makes them superior or they are just dumb as rocks. Nothing against anyone who’s identity is crossfit.
God, I got riled up for a minute.
    Do whatever brings you enjoyment.

    hahaha that photo

Do what brings you enjoyment is the truth.

But yea I don’t see it as my identity it’s just my sport of choice. And def don’t think it make me superior, just saying compared to other fitness sports (bodybuilding, powerlifting, oly, strongman) you will likely be a more pragmatically functional human. But generally your right any fitness sport is gonna make you more functional than the average fat ass American.

I’ve never understood the hatred, all the fitness sports are related and share more in common. I love watching bodybuilding and powerlifter a kick ass at what they do.

Policy hat on: I am not certain that anyone has established what “functional” means.

Is it being good at daily tasks? Like mowing the lawn and carrying groceries?

Is it related to some imaginary series of obstacles men sometimes fantasize about (THE RUSSIANS ARE INVADING AND MY CLEANS FOR TIME HAVE PREPARED ME FOR RED DAWN II MOTHERFUCKER)?

Is it some agreed upon set of tasks one should be able to do, like some sort of real life decathlon?

The real truth is if you want to get better at a task/movement pattern/etc you train that. Crossover effects from training are typically limited to overall strength (which can be gained from lots of sports) cardio (ibid) and mental toughness (which is where some “functional” exercise may help normal folks). You have to be pretty advanced or have a pretty big deficit (usually injury based) to really need the sort of bullshit “functional” training to make you better at a specific task beyond the tasks you are practicing.

That said, my advice to people is find something you like doing. It makes it easy to stick with. All exercise, applied intelligently, is great, and functionality is a relative term defined solely by the person exercising rather than some arbitrary standard.

you had to say it again;)
For the love of god, no. What are crossfitters going to be able to do better? Take out the trash in record time when the wife asks for the 56th time? Carry in more groceries quicker? Play catch with junior especially well as a superior functioning human? I am legit trying to think how crossfit would give someone a functional advantage

One of my good buddies and his fiancé are into CrossFit but both agree most of the people involved are a joke. Good CrossFit coaching is just like any other strength coach, global gym trainer, etc. You have mostly shit ones with actual legit ones few and far between.

You watching any of the games that are going on?

glad you made it back to your house safely, maybe one day we won’t have to fret and worry about the struggle of taking out the trash. Boy, Crossfit who does the same thing we do only lighter and faster are so lucky!

I am pretty over the whole Crossfit argument. Let people exercise/lift/eat/drink/smoke however and whatever they want and leave them alone for it. This dude didn't come in here and bash anyone.

I know a bunch of people who do Crossfit, are strong, and aren't annoying about it. I am not sure what's more annoying: the Crossfit cult people or the people that get off on bashing it.

I guess it has been awhile since we had Crossfit pop up in the thread so you guys have had a lot of time to build up that anger.

Don't forget your nipple tape. Also, I wanted to include a resource for you in case you aren't prepared...

Seriously though, I could never run a marathon let alone an ultra. You may be nuts, but I admire the discipline.

I will admit I do have a personal vendetta against CrossFit from being around/involved with it and their coaches and/or gym owners.

    I'll also admit I'm a dick lol
